Zelda 2004 Fears

My First Real Post! I feel like I’m potty training. Please, don’t tell me if there has been a similar post like this in the past… humor me. Or ignore me. Either is better than the first.

There has been a lot of threads claiming how great they foresee the new GC Zelda to be, how it’s going to be everything we have asked for, and how there is no way you won’t like it. Optimism is all well and good, but I would like to make a few small points of pessimism to add to the mix. Such is healthy, as when the day actually comes and the game beats the pants off what we imagined, it will be all the merrier.

[edit wha... my firewall is acting up again. It won't let me post more than this at a time. What do I do? I dunno. Could somebody merge these perhaps? Heh.]

-------

The problem I foresee, and although it may seem unlikely it is still worth noting, is that Nintendo may be listening to our pleas to closely. Not “ours” in the sense of the inner Zelda fan community but rather that of popular word. . . The people want mature, they get the most realistic graphics of any Zelda game. The people want the horse, they get the horse, and on-horse battle action to boot. People think this is going back to Zelda’s roots, “this is the old link”. I disagree. Link, in all his forms, has and should be, a child. In OoT, as “older” link you still act the same as you were younger, just as juvenile (in social cut-scenes). Even in the darkest of the series so far, Majora’s Mask, Link was a child. Previous games hint at link being a child (he lives with his uncle? Yes.) I hope to god Nintendo doesn’t take away his quiet and naïve yet determined personality just because he is supposedly “older”. Thankfully, he is still a teenager (yeah, we all call him adult link, but since when do you consider 16 adult?)

-------

Another problem contradicts some of my hopes. . . It’s about the controls. It is about time we got some new controls, but I hope against hope that they don’t change it dramatically. Dramatic graphic change… great. Dramatic control scheme change… hell no. Even if they make something just as good (and I bet they can, Nintendo is the number one authority in innovative control schemes in my book) it just won’t be Zelda. OoT has scratched its controls in my mind and it wont go away.

I would hate link to be voice acted, that would turn me off so much it’s crazy. Really, make him say anything other than “ . . . . ” and maybe the odd “yes” or “no” and I am already kinda pissed.

I am not against blood in video games (Resident Evil all the way!) but Blood in Zelda DOES NOT FIT. All you blood hogs must get that into your head.

There is no doubt that this game will be good. But I hope that none of the above will become an issue. Anyone else got something they are afraid might be in the game?

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

Actually, no. I ain't scared of nothing. I have my faith in Nintendo and I can't see anything that could go wrong.

This game will be amazing and one of the best yet. Aonuma-san says he is looking to better Ocarina of Time and I trust him.

How is it? Do you mean as in the NES Zelda's? Or as in OoT (which was the first Zelda in the timeline)? I haven't heard of people saying this was a return to anything like that, more like it's a step in a new direction.

No, Shigeru Miyamoto wanted to have mature graphics in his game because he wanted Link to 'grow up'. I think Link has advanced, and this never-seen-before horseback fighting is one way of showing it. God knows how many others ways there are that we haven't seen yet!

Nah, I don't think they will-I think Link's always been like that, but it 2D, you can't show it as well.

Actually, to not think that would be patronising in my eyes. Everyone is different. There are thugs who, at 24 or something (well over the legal adult age) who drink-drive, smash things, grafitti and terrorise people. They are the most immature and like children.
Wheras there are some, a lot are on these forums, who are younger, more like 14 or 16 who have never done anything like that, but are still referred to as children even though they act more like adults than the older people.
Then again, think what you like-everyone's different!

Well, say they release this game with say, one button changed or something you'll probably say they've not done enough. But if they do have a dramatic change, then you'll say they've ruined it or something. Nintendo will always upset at least one person with a least one aspect, it's the same for everything.
Except Mountain Dew-no-one hates that!

True, but these graphics don't exactly draw memories of the old Zelda's either. For them to expand the Zelda series, Nintendo needs to change things-and we need to stand by Nintendo and accept that they'll do a great job, whatever they change. ^_^;

I know what you mean! If he was voice acted, that's one thing I couldn't accept (sorry to contradict myself ^_^.
The only thing I'd accept as voice acting is if they spoke in Japanese instead of English. I couldn't stand some corny American actor doing his voice. Then again, the people who are fluent in Japanese probably won't be happy either! ^_^;
Anyway, I heard some time ago that Shigeru will NEVER give him a voice! So yay for that!

I understand that you want the series to stay the same, but there's no harm in a little realism. That doesn't mean I want ever enemies guts to pour out every time Link kills one of them! We're not hogs, we'd just like it to look more real.

Yes, actually-

-I want Zelda and Ganon (in some form at least) to be in the game.
-I want old items to stay there (hookshot, generic instrument , bow and arrows, etc).
-I don't want Link to become a badass character, he was cuter in OoT when he was more innocent. He looks great yes, but his actual attitude? Please don't change.
-If Zelda is in the game, I want her to be more useful, and be in the game more.
-The return of Malon! Well not Malon, but at least an equivalent character who's the girl-next-door type.
-They won't return, but I want to see some fairies!

As you can see, most of my worries lie with the characters, rather than battling. ^____^

I would hate it if Link was voice acted, or even had any lines at all (save it for the manga) but I would want Zelda and Ganondorf (If their in it) to have voices, I mean that laugh at the end of WW was just scary, I wanted to hear him talk after that.

Ah how quickly you forget Ocarina of Time and it's bloodshed. What do you think that Ganondorf thew up? Nope he coughed up a lot of blood, and in the gold cartrige that was red. and enimies and Jabu-Jabu also gave blood.

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

Tingle. I mean, can't he NOT be in one Zelda game...JUST ONE!? OoT was funny without Tingle, (Gorons trying to hug Link and Link screaming his head off and running away, Link falling down anime style when the Deku Tree Sprout "sprouted" from the ground, etc.) We don't need Tingle. He had been in every Zelda game since MM. Sure, i know he'll be in TMC (Face it, happy graphics, he was in FSA, why not TMC?), but not Zelda'05! PLEASE! Make some other map seller! Heck, name that guy Boko or...Bokja or SOMETHING other than Tingle! I don't want to see what Tingle wil look like in the graphics.
Can you picture it?

He'll look REALLY ugly.

That is my main fear.

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

My biggest fear is if they take away Links almost anonymous status. The fact that he doesn't speak or anything (apart from "HYAGH!" and the other lines of course) is one of his main features. In fact, I hope they stick with all the characters only saying little lines or sound effects e.g Tingles "Yom", "Kee-up!" or something to that effect.
I personally, can do without blood. Maybe the odd splatter of green 'stuff' here and there, but nothing overly bloody.
I hope they bring back Tingle, but nothing more than the role he had in MM. He was alright in MM, but he was part of a daylight robbery scam taking a few thousand rupees just to translate a few Triforce Charts  I also hope they don't get rid of some of the older weapons, and replace them with newer items that do almost the same job.

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

heh, yeh Jordan L, I felt the only reson why you were collecting rupees in WW was to pay Tingle which sucked a bit to be honest. I would like to see him return, but not with the role he played in WW.
I have no fears about Zelda 2005, I think Nintendo will make us all happy Zelda fans

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

I just want to have the Windwaker storyline..

Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask

Wind Waker
Zelda 05

I dont want that to happen, I dont want it to change the land completely or a completely new storyline, I want to see Ganon/Ganondorf and the story from Windwaker to re commence.

I have no worries, I just hope It doesnt turn into a Majora's Mask.

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

I loved Majoras Mask storyline. It was better than OoT... the story, I mean. It wasn't a better game by far.

That said, I agree on that point totaly.

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

As long as it has no voice acting and has a decent length and difficulty
I'll be happy. Game 13 should be no less than perfection .

Oh, and they should get rid of that annoying pile of horse manure that is Tingle.

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

I liked Tingle when he was in MM, it was funny shooting him down and seeing him blow up balloon up again

have you noticed how the prices in Zelda games seem to inflate over time as well? (that or they're just getting greedy) I hope it won't be another case of collecting tons of rupees to spend on something and then after that, there's nothing to buy and you have a permanent case of 999 rupees, that always happen, it's annoying

I wouldn't mind a bit of blood, the game doesn't need blood to scare me, I get scared by the Stalchildren and the Redead anyway

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

Im with you 100 percent man. When I first heard about the new mature Zelda i was horrified! You all heard me!! Horrified. I loved Wind Waker and innocent Link (he made Teh Ron smile). Miyamoto is definitely giving in to "peer pressure" on this one. I mean think about all the speeches he made on his love for "Celda". ...eh!!! But theres one thing i want about the game. MOBLINS WITH FLIPPY LIPS!
LIKE IN WIND WAKER!
LONG LIVE FLIPPY LIVES

Re: Zelda 2004 Fears

^Then you do not have to buy this one.

Now, i don't think that Miyamoto really gave in to peer-pressure, i think that when they were starting to make this new game, they knew that this graphic was ment to be.

btw, the flippy lips of the moblins in the WW, in my opinion, makes them look like buches of dull-brained idiots, want an example? Knock one of their weapons off and they look around and then to you and punch you. Another way is, they stand there suprised like a little girl who just found a Ken doll for her Barbie doll.
Now, look at the Bokoblin, when their weapons were knocked off, they immediatly began to look for it.

I want the Moblins of this new Zelda '05 to have a stern and firm mouth to make them look intimadating than they were in the WW.

(Note: That above was one of my fears for this game, that the moblins were gonna have flippy lips that would make them look stupid.)
