Zelda Wii and DS?

Before I continue on, I wasn't sure where to put this thread, in the Hand Held Forums, the Zelda theorizing or the future Zelda.. So I just posted it here because its on the futre zelda games...but move it if neccessary!!
okay:
In the Wind Waker you were able to use the GBA. It was called the tingle tuner. Here is a description on this:

The Wind Waker is the first and currently only Zelda game to make use of the connection between two game consoles, Nintendo Gamecube and Game Boy Advance. When Link rescues Tingle from his imprisonment in Windfall Island, the 35-year old man will give him the Tingle Tuner, along with the Tingle Chart; after this point, when the player connects a Game Boy Advance to the Gamecube through the GCN-GBA Cable, the young hero will be aided by Tingle in many ways.[13] For example, when inside dungeons, he can watch its rooms even if the dungeon map has been collected yet; Link can also purchase items from Tingle for use, and a special sidequest (also regarding the dungeons) will be unlocked. This is also the only way to find the elusive Knuckle, whose figurine is impossible to obtain otherwise (since he won't appear at all normally in the game).

So do you think maybe in Zelda Wii we will be able to use the Nintendo DS/DSi in some way? and if so, what do you think we can use it for?

I was originally going to argue with "If they wanted to do that, they would have done so with TP". However I remembered that TP was originally a GC game (that got ported onto the Wii), they didn't have enough time to develop any Wii/DS connectivity. But with Zelda Wii being an official Wii title, let's just say the idea is...probable.

Now I wouldn't expect any revolutionary add-ons if the DS/DSi were implemented, I'd possibly expect the "DS Tingle Tuner" (let's call it that for now) to be a cross between tWW's Tingle Tuner and the capabilities of what's possible on the PH/ST games. So basically what I'm saying is, the player would be able to sketch/make notes on the map (using his/her DS). Another idea I've come up with (that could also be incorporated using the WiiSpeak) is this: Imagine playing tWW and you're Link infiltrating the Forsaken Fortress for the first time. Now imagine that it's not enough to hide underneath a barrel, but you the player, must also be silent. If the mic (on the DS or on the WiiSpeak, depending on whatever you own), picks up on any loud noise, the enemies on the screen will notice.

Another idea? The Postman. When he gives you a letter, it can be read via your DS. And maybe because you are using this extra device, the game will reward you with an extra Beetle coupon (or something).

More ideas? This one would be better if you had a friend playing along. Let's say Link buys a Picto Box. Now that Picto Box is automatically sent to the DS. All the "second player" has to do is click on the L or R shoulder buttons and whatever is shown on the screen will become a snapshot. And if you own a DSi, you're able to download said pics to your hard drive. Because let's face it, in tWW it was a little bit bothersome taking out the Picto Box for a few seconds for a picture. In reality, Link would have been dead. In Zelda Wii, the second player will be able to take the awesome shots without the first player worrying.

I had an idea about the player being able to take pictures with in game characters with the DSi, but that sounds too gimicky/The Sims.

I wouldn't mind an over-priced merchant like Tingle to follow me around like in tWW. Eventhough I never needed it, it was an interesting add-on to have for any really novice players.

Well those are all the ideas I have for now.

Nintendo has probably realized that cross-console connectivity isn't ever going to catch on. Because it's gimmicky and pointless.

^not pointless maybe there could be a sidequest that you need the DS/DSi for.. I don't own a DSi though so if it does happen and u need a DSi then I'll be sad face

YEAH! its like the DS (ur friend) could be your partner (eg, Navi, midna, other) ...
..I think that would be an excellent co-op feature for a Zelda game.

Re: Zelda Wii and DS?

Let's not forget that never before Nintendo had such huge userbase for both their home and handheld console while offering connection possibility beetween them. Wind Waker required the owner to have a GameCube(yeah, I know, duh. But it was the worse selling system last generation), a Game Boy Advance and the freaking connecting cable(that almost nobody had). Nowadays, we have a huge Wii installed user base, a gynormous, almost rediculous Nintendo DS userbase and the absence of the need for any connecting peripheral. Besides, I would bet that there's a lot of overlapping beetween said userbases. I, for one, can deffinitely see it happening. I just don't expect it to be way more interesting than the Tingle Tuner, for it would be unfair towards everyone that happens to not have a Nintendo DS laying around.

I am lacking ideas for its implementation as of now, but I'd love to toss some around as the topic develops. =D

Re: Zelda Wii and DS?

I had honestly almost forgotten about the connectivity. I was really looking forward to it early in Wii's life, but it just kind of faded away.

I think this would be a great idea. If any game is going to re introduce this idea, ZW would be perfect. Since it already has the base from the TT, it wouldn't be a stretch for some sort of connectivity.

However, it seems like Nintendo is going for another more serious feeling game as oposed to the cel shaded. So another Tingle Tuner probably wouldn't fit in to well. I think the idea of being the fairy might be better. Controll them on the DS kind of like Floyd from Jet Force Gemini. They could offer assistance, distraction, access secrets and maybe serve as a scout.

A Beetle Coupon is something he gives you after multiple services to his shop (really, he's the ONLY store, so loyalty is bound by him alone) and it will reduce the price of the items in his shop.

Thanks. Another idea I had was to also make the DS you personal Bank/storage unit. Let's say your Rupee wallet is full. You place money into your DS, so that you could save up even more money (because I really hate opening up a chest and I get money when I'm already full). Another idea? In tWW, Tingle can actually help you attack enemies (not bosses though). With the surplus charge of 10 rupees per bomb, he can drop bombs from the sky (no you ever see a hovering Tingle in the sky of the game, all you saw was this green symbol on the ground). I really didn't like this surplus charge. What if you could personally store excess Arrows and Bombs to your DS that you don't need at the moment? You could either store it on your DS for a later time, or you could go co-op mode and have your friend shoot arrows and throw bombs (the enemies won't be clear on the DS, so the second player will have to guess where to shoot/throw). And your friend can only shoot/throw parallel to the ground, that you're standing on, so don't expect your friend to shoot flying flaming keese while you're taking care of the moblins.

Just like in tWW, I don't think the second player DS option should be mandatory to play the game. It's just an extra co-op feature that can be implemented for a few minor mini-games. Also, if you look at it this way, people who purchased FSA and only played it in Single Player mode, they never got the chance to play Shadow Battle. It was a little unfair, but you (and I) were aware of it when you purchased the game.

Not to get too off topic, but, I believe Nintendo wanted to dis ban the use of Nintendo Downloadable Wifi stations at GameStop in order to promote the fact that now they can download demos and trailers from Wiis. So it hasn't completely faded away, they just haven't incorporated it into a game.

One game that I think would really benefit for a Wii and DS connection would be Trace Memory (it was a game on the DS that made a sequel on the Wii).
