Link and The Sword Mistress's Relationship

Well, I would add more detail to this post... But, because it's 2:00 AM and I'm currently suffering from a splitting headache, I'll just post a few brief choices for now... I'll add more detail to the topic later; most likely sometime tomorrow.

Anyways, due to the fact that Nintendo is showing this "sword girl" character so early in time signifies that she will be extremely important to both the plot and Link's quest.

So of course, we're going to get some form of character interaction and character development between the two.

The question is though, out of the options listed below, what kind of relationship do you think the two will end up having in the long run? Or rather, what relationship would you like them to have?




Here are the options I have so far:


1. Companion Relationship/Close Friendship - You know, buddies, best friends, BFFs, etc. Similar to that of Link and Navi's relationship as seen in Ocarina of Time. Kind of cliche if you ask me, as it has already been done before.

2. Parental/Older Sibling Relationship - As the game progresses, Link starts to see the Sword Mistress as a younger sister/daughter figure, while she begins to see Link as an older brother/fatherly figure. You get the idea. I'm hoping for this relationship the most, because it's never been done before in Zelda game (not that I'm aware of, at least.)

3. Romantic Relationship - inb4loli. Yeeeaah, no futher comments... I'm NOT hoping for this one, personally.

4. Intolerable Relationship - No close relationship. If anything, they can barely tolerate each other. You know, something similar to say, Link and Midna's relationship at the beginning of TP. It could produce some humorous/interesting conflicts between the two.

5. Rivalry - Extremely unlikely and unexpected, but could introduce some very interesting things for both the plot and the gameplay, imo.

6. Usage/Dirty Work Relationship - Similar to that of the Intolerable relationship, but one is using the other for selfish means. Once again, something akin to the relationship that Midna and Link had in the beginning of Twilight Princess, for example.

7. Guardian - Link is sworn by some higher power to protect her for some crazy reason, and that's that. There's barely any character development or interaction between, and if there is, it will probably be poorly handled. Either that or it will end up developing into one or several of the other relationships listed above.

8. Other - Some other form of relationship that doesn't coincide with any of the options listed above. Please post your theories and reasons though.




P.S - How do you make a poll? I'm still trying to get used to the board's layout and all, lol.

I don't really think this is something I can even speculate on right now. I think that it's pretty obvious that she is (most likely) the Navi/Midna/overall helper for this game. That could be wrong however, she could play more of a Zelda role and just chill back at the castle while you're an inch away from death half the time. Don't know, want to know, but I don't. Judging from the picture I would say they might have a Link/Navi type relationship. But, if I remember right it was said that this Link is suppose to be somewhat older than most, which would make the Parental/sibling relationship more plausible. All in all I think it's just to many unknowns at this point in time for us to really call anything. Hopefully that'll change soon though.

oh and i plan on not posting about the new game till it comes out and i either play it or see a gameplay video

The sword mistress definitely has some kind of importance. After all, Link is shielding her from whatever is in front of him.

Definitely 2--Parental relationship. I as well am really hoping for this, since I have a soft spot for this kind of thing, and like you said, it's never been done in a Zelda title. Also, it is the only choice that I see that has not been drastically overdone to the point of clicheness in video games, so I'm all for it.

hmm... it may be a little early to be too decisive, but I'm kinda hoping for the Parental/Sibling type relationship, more so because it's something that (as far as I know) is rare in the world of video game companions.

I dunno, but she's already 100 times better than Midna.

It's a bit early to speculate as the above posts have said before me, but I'm hoping a parental/sibling relationship this time.

She looks like a soft or shy character. She really doesn't give me the impression of another Midna.

I think it'll be a partner relationship. I can't see Link ever bossing anybody around, and she looks too soft or whatever to be bossy like Midna.
