Hombre's Zelda Wii ideas - PIRATES INCLUDED!
I wanna get these out there before Zelda Wii is revealed so I can show that I can look back and laugh at myself for being so wrong. Anyway, I've had two main ideas for the setting of Zelda Wii that I think will carry the universe forward, but also visiting familiar grounds.
I won't be getting into details, dungeons, sidequests etc. I'll keep it simple for your viewing pleasure. Idea 1: Zelda Wii takes place a few hundred years from WW and technology has advanced (gunpowder present but not used by everyone). Disregard any potential outcome of ST for the moment. The land is made up by a series of islands. Link is the nephew of a Blacksmith (sounds familiar?) on an island. His life changes when Pirates invade the island and kills his uncle. Of course, the Pirate King is none other than Ganondorf, reborn. Officially, Ganondorf is just that, a Pirate King. Feared, but not supernatural or anything. Of course, this is about to change as Link stumbles upon a secret passage on his island, leading into the mountains where he finds ruins of an old civilisation and huge statues of Ganon (yeah, the pig). Throughout the game, Link will learn that the people of this ancient civilisation made and hid the Trident of Power that Ganondorfs learns about after finding some old scroll or whatnot. Link must then take the role of the Hero to recover the Trident before Ganondorf. The reason I like this idea is because even though it takes place in a new world, its inhabitants can never escape what it once was. Also, explaining the backstory of the Trident of Power is probably one of the most wanted things for many Zelda fans. Idea 2: This would take place in the Child Timeline, no obvious connection to other games. The game starts out showing Hyrule Castle. A soldier proclaims that the king of Hyrule has arrived, turning out to be Ganondorf. Princess Zelda who has been on a long diplomacy mission or something returns and is chocked to see Ganondorf as the new king. She sends out a cry for help, and somehow Link, a lone swordsman (like in the original Zelda) shows up to defeat ganondorf who of course has a plan to use his position to aquire the Triforce through force. Link is seen as an enemy of Hyrule and must gain the trust of Gorons, Zoras etc to find out a way to defeat Ganondorf. Why is this interesting? Well, I think it just puts a big twist on the familiar concept of OoT or TP. Of course, part of this has already been done by ALttP when the guards tried to catch Link. But now when we have multiple races etc, Nintendo could take this a step further.

Re: Hombre's Zelda Wii ideas - PIRATES INCLUDED!
I like Idea 1, mostly because I've always toyed with the idea of an ancient civilisation and a new land after Wind Waker.
About the series of islands... are they small, like in Wind Waker? My idea would be to have a large mainland with well as a coast in the southwest, where you would be able so sail to some smaller islands. Anyway, It would be interesting to see ruins scattered all throughout the land. It would be atmospheric; walking through the night and coming up to an ancient statue of beast Ganon in the moonlight. It would also be good if some of the ruins were explorable and contained rewards, or hidden NPCs. Anyway, great thread!

I love the idea of a future Zelda set years and years after TWW Hyrule. It could be even more unique and swashbuckling than the one in TWW; old Hylian legacy would be on it's way out, you'd have a pirates sword rather than a Hylian one and maybe it could even be a sea game but with semi-realistic graphics. There could be realistic wave physics, technology that is about as advanced as in Majora's Mask (along with other futuristic inventions from Zelda games such as telephones and trains), multiple forms of sea travel, and a sea vastly more populated than The Wind Waker. Add to that the ability to explore lost underwater civilisations (via underwater animals), expansive pirate ship fights, and further evolvements of the races presented on the Adult Timeline and you've got an amazing Zelda game.

That's kind of irrelevant to the main idea, but I was never a fan of WW's concept of "one sidequest per island". I'd like to have several larger islands with more to do on each and a few smaller ones.

It could or could not be any islands we've previously seen in WW. As I said though, it's irrelevant, really. The main idea is what matters.

Your second idea reminds me somewhat of Prince Caspian. Fighting the guards in ALttP was one of my favorite things about the game, it made it feel more urgent somehow. Me likey.

Awesome ideas! Really creative for a Zelda storyline. Well, can't say which one is better because they're both great. But i think that what Zelda fans need now is a new idea in a new world. So idea #1 would be the best. It could be expanded by adding some kind of connection to the triforce. Like after the trident has been recovered, (by either Link or Gannon). The Triforce would somehow be involved in the story after the events of the trident occur during the game.
I would personally like the main overworld to be on land. Along with some islands that should be added to make the plot and overworld more important and interesting. |
