Mega Man Progression
I am sure most of you know that in classic Mega Man games you can play any robot master stage in any order. Instead of having all of them available, how about just a small number that need to all be cleared to get another group of dungeons where you use the weapons you got in the last set are to be used. Then in the final dungeon you use them all to get to the last boss.
The only gripe with the idea is it would make all the dungeons in the same set just as easy as one another, making the game rather easy. This wasn't a problem for Mega Man though, because his stages were pretty hard to begin with. What do you think?

Re: Mega Man Progression
That isn't true. You need the bow for eye switches in the Water Temple. Navi points you in the order of Forest > Fire > Water > Shadow > Spirit. Plus they get proggressively harder (besides the Water Temple, that is just hard).

Re: Mega Man Progression
Is there anything stopping you from doing Dodongo Cavern and Jabujabu, Fire and Water temples, Shadow and Spirit temples the other way round?

Re: Mega Man Progression
There is a rock wall in Zora's River that you need to bomb. Other than that not really, except Navi will keep on yelling at you, because you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, and that is even worse!

Re: Mega Man Progression
actually in the game, your supposed to do the Spirit Temple before the shadow temple,
just saying, that why the shadow medallion goes in the last slot. Quote:

Re: Mega Man Progression

Re: Mega Man Progression
Fire and Water I believe you need the Megaton Hammer at one point in Water Temple. Also you need the Hover Boots to even get to the Spirit Temple.

Re: Mega Man Progression
Dunno about the first, but you DEFINITELY dont need the hover boots to get to the Spirit Temple. Just hookshot the flags/crate.

Re: Mega Man Progression
IMO, Midna was more annoying than Navi, but let's not go there again.
Let's talk about how great the idea in the OP was.

Re: Mega Man Progression
It's technically possible to do Lord Jabu Jabu's Belly before the Dodongo's Cavern, but that involves getting halfway through the Dodongo's Cavern until you obtain the bombs, and then, once you have them, leaving, and completing Lord Jabu Jabu's Belly, then coming back to finish the rest of the Dodongo's Cavern. Ie, it's such a timewaster to do and there's no real advantage to it, so nobody really bothers. The exact same thing applies to the Forest Temple and the Water Temple - you have to get the Fairy's Bow from halfway through the Forest Temple, then exit having got halfway through and go complete the others. Having multiple paths is only really a good thing if there's a point to doing them in a certain order, or if they can happen naturally without having to do things in a forced way. If it doesn't fill ether of those criteria, then people won't do them because it is an unnecessary time waste for no reward. The only real points where OoT is non-linear is that the Water and Fire temples can be done in either order, and the Shadow and Spirit Temples can be done in either order. This is nothing compared to aLttP where almost all of the Dark World dungeons are interchangeable, and will often be done in a different order without even realising it.
That said, I do like non-linearity. Making each set of two dungeons interchangeable apart from the first and the last was always the way I wanted to see it. So: A......B<->C.......D<->E.....F<->G......H<->I......J<->K.....L |

Like say to do the fire temple first go through the forest temple until you acquire the bow then go to death mountain get the tunic and do it and to do the water temple first play through the previous two temples and get their key items then go to do the preparation necessary for the water temple personally i collect all needed items for the temples so i can after having all the items defeat one temple than just run to the next temple with no delays ![]() this is also possible with Majora's Mask except you can do whichever temple you want in any order just lather and rinse xD.

Re: Mega Man Progression
The idea of going through the dungeons in a non-linear fashion is quite popular among Zelda fans.
I'm thinking that you could get to about 3 dungeons at the same time, but if you do them in a special order, it'll be easier than otherwise. For example: Complete dungeon A, get bombs. In dungeon B you can use the bombs to kill the dodongos. If you don't have bombs you'll have to find the secret room to find a bomb plant that you can plant in the dodongo rooms, but they're weaker and can only be used more seldom (since they have to grow back). Same goes for overall difficulty. Dungeon B can be significantly harder than Dungeon A, but because you get the slingshot in Dungeon A, life will be easier if you complete that before. This is an interesting way of changing the difficulty in Zelda, without having actual difficulty settings. Players just need to be more or less aware of the consequences of dungeon-choosing.

Re: Mega Man Progression
How about something like this:
Group 1 comprises dungeons A, B and C. Group 2 - D, E and F. Group 1 must be completed, in any order, to access group 2. Dungeon A is heavy on puzzles and enemies that require intelligence, Dungeon B is heavy on action and spams enemies at you a lot, while Dungeon C is heavy on stealth. The dungeon item in Dungeon A would make B and C easier, same with B for A and C, and C for A and B. This makes the player decide what order to do the dungeons in. Depends on what the player prefers in terms of gameplay. This would give the gameplay quite a bit of variation.

Re: Mega Man Progression
Stealth? This isn't Metal Gear Solid! (which is also amazing btw) this is totally different type of gameplay
