Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

Ganondorf has been the main antagonist for most of the Zelda games. Twilight Princess fooled us with thinking that Zant was the main villain. Do you think that we should have an entirely new villain, should Ganon stay, or should he be the secondary villain like Zant?

Ganondorf must go away. Preferably permanently.

Ganondorf stays. There is no other way.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

I think Mario should get rid of Boweser! Kirby should get rid of King DeDeDe and Megaman should get rid of Dr. Wiley!

while we're at it, let's remove M. bison from street fighter, Dracula from Castlevania and robotnik from Sonic!

No. Ganon stays. He's too pimp.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

I don't mind new villains, and Ganondorf resting. However, as I said in another thread quite a while ago, if he goes, then I DON'T want quick one-time villains such as Bellum, or anything that just feels too alienated to be a permenant villain. Even Vaati, to me, is far overrated. Something about him just screams "filler!!!" to me. I want a character who wouldn't do that.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

I wouldn't mind if they made like two games, one where there is a new villain, but Ganon is a higher power, you can't reach just yet. And the ending of the first game would be beating the new villain, and the second would be beating Ganon. Or something like that. Except you don't learn about Ganon until like the end of the first.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

I don't agree with your examples, Tigerboi. Or maybe they show something else; that in letting go of one note, self stereotyped characters, Zelda may exceed the flaws of those franchises. Regardless, I see Ganondorf as absolutely spent of impact, somewhat because of his irrelevant presence in Twilight Princess, but moreso because Wind Waker already capitilised on his Ironic value. Ganondorf's desire for Hyrule and the Triforce have long since become character flaws, and these elements, among others, are tedious strings required for reappearances. A return of Ganondorf at this point in time only poses challenges.

Although, I don't think that he should be removed from the franchise, rather that he should take a less important, but more tactical role. Nintendo needs to know when to use him, and I currently see few of those scenarios in future. A removal of Ganondorf, temporary or not, will allow Nintendo to escape certain elements which are bogging the franchise down.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

Ganondorf stays. If they remove Ganondorf why don't you remove the mastersword, Princess Zelda, LINK (geezz I have seen enough that guy already) Triforce, sages, EPONA (Get a new horse Link!)

Ganondorf is one of the main keys of the Zelda series. You can't just remove him. People actually like Ganondorf when he has a great developed character. Windwaker showed a little of it and people claim Windwaker one of the best Ganondorf's/Ganon they had!

He needs a good new comeback in the new zelda wii

I agree. Remove the lot, perhaps excluding Link. Link himself should also undergo some change, however, but this should be gradual. Honestly - the Master Sword, Zelda, Ganondorf, Hyrule? These things do not define the series. It is defined instead by it's Gameplay, and method of storytelling.

I would be one of those people, but largely because Wind Waker made light of Ganondorf's desire for Hyrule and the Triforce as pitiable weaknesses, rather than defining strengths, as in the other titles. Usually, Ganondorf is a blatantly generic villian, and Wind Waker is an exception. In a sense, Nintendo was admitting the weaknesses of his character and using them to dramatic effect. This cannot be done again, and to be honest, it would have been the perfect ending for Ganondorf. His 'badass' appearance in Twilight Princess was essentially in contempt of his development in The Wind Waker.

Yes me too! I love Windwaker Ganondorf because it showed him in a different view then most evil guy's. In the Oot interview someone explained that Miyamoto didn't want Ganondorf to be just an evil/devil person. But instead be a very dangerous and cool person.

Eiji Aonuma said "I think we did a good job of showing him also as a tragic figure, but a real person ruled by greed."

They should try to put that in the next game... Make Ganondorf ecknowledge some of his flaws... aahh I can only hope for it in the next zelda wii

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

^Well I see his appearances as spent of all value, but you are entitled to your opinion. Personally, I am hoping for a new setting, along with a new villian, if indeed we even need to have one. A break from Ganondorf and the concepts that surround him is needed, but the game will likely be enjoyable either way.

Remove him from the series? No.

Remove him from Zelda Wii? Yes.

The presence of stale plot elements and themes does not merely affect cutscenes. Majora's Mask, as an example, had an entirely different direction to that of Ocarina, despite gameplay that was essentially very similar. Much of the change that came about in that title was merely through the music, puzzles and storyline actively conveying different ideas.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

I don't think Ganon should ever be the secondary villian, no. He's a manipulator, Zant, Vaati, it's what he does. I think that he should stay as the main villian for the series, but there's nothing wrong with giving him a little time out. Especially when it's relevant to the timeline.

Re: Should Ganondorf go away for a while?

For once I agree with the 'boi. Ganondorf stays, if only to make up for his ♥♥♥♥ty TP appearance.

Ganondorf has had a few good appearances, but, IMO, apart from a few cutscenes, no GREAT ones.
