And with that said, I'd like to introduce to you all to the Pan Flute:

In the past Link has used a flute, an ocarina, a horn, and a whistle*. All these instruments have three things in common: they are wind instruments, they are small/portable, & they sound beautifully.

A Pan flute fits all three of these criteria (plus it can play multiple notes ala the ocarina).

Now the violin is a nice suggestion, however it seems to elligant of an instrument for the lone-hero-on-the-go. Personally I think a regular silver reeded flute or violin would be best suited for someone that has an elligant lifestyle...like a princess perhaps And Oracle Nayru had a beautiful singing voice, so I wouldn't pull it past Zelda to sing (but that may require voice acting, unless her voice is replaced by instrument music).

-BGS

*Link has used other instruments before, but I chose to exclude them in my discussion to make a point on how the Pan Flute would make a logical step in the Legend of Zelda.
Dude, don't you mean the pan pipes?

Nah, that's enough of that stuff. I was glad TP didn't center around an instrument, though it did still have you howl, which wasn't really the same thing anyway. If it's like what many Zelda games have had, where you just play a flute so you can teleport, then I guess I'd be fine with it. But enough with these multipurpose instruments. These games don't need them.

Too bad they already did the baton thing in Wind Waker. That would have had Wii Remote written all over it.

Lol, I've got this image in my head of Link playing a tuba.

Anyway, I don't think so. I can't think of anything that could be a worthy enough successor to the Ocarina.

Oh, and you spelled instrument wrong in the title.

Link needs an instrument for sure. It needs to be small enough to pocket and not be a hazzle, but it needs to have the charm of the era and magic. I think the ocarina is the only one that truly fits.

In Link's Awakening, you get 8 instruments, what if in the next Zelda you got 8 instruments,
and played each one through motion control. They already have Wii Music...

Re: Do you think Link should have an insturment in future games?

There's been a picture going around that someone thinks was shown at E3 of Link dancing, do you think this might be like a new instrument?

And I think a harp like Sheik or Meldi's would be pretty cool.

BAG PIPES.

JK, but I think he should play a string instrument for once. Violins and violas are portable like ocarinas, so I don't see why not. It's not too much of a stretch, he's already used a guitar made out of a fish...
