The Remake Thread

Let's talk about the games in the franchise that deserve remakes. What you would want in it, what kind of art style, 2D or 3D gameplay format, if another company like Capcom should handle it, when it should be done, whatever.

Fun challenge: Let's see how far this thread can go without someone saying that a remake would destroy the franchise.

There, now that we got that terrible joke out of the way, I would say that the one that needs a remake is...the first Legend of Zelda.

Re: The Remake Thread

I would love to see a OoT remake. Simply because it is the game that split the timeline, and I love it It will become more difficult for people who never played OoT to understand the timeline in the future, thats why I think they should remake it for new players.

I already posted a list of changes I'd like to see in a OoT remake:

Quote:
Originally Posted by Maritimus View Post

- More consequences after Ganondorf takes over. The worst case scenario has happened, the royal family is dead and Ganondorf is in charge. Why is Hyrule Field not affected by this ? There should be more "drama".

- Have Ganondorf strike back a few times. Seriously, Lon Lon Ranch is practically next to his castle, yet he does not do anything when Link brings Talon back ? Ganondorf does not even try to invade Kakariko ? Is he just sitting in his castle all day, waiting for Link to come and kick his ass ?

- Zora's Domain must of course unfreeze, and because of that there needs to be an unfrozen version of the Ice Cavern, too.

- Hyrule Castle Town should feel more "alive". Make it bigger, NPCs should interact with each other like in Majoras Mask. After Ganondorf attacks Hyrule Castle, there should at least be Gerudo Guards instead of soldiers. I realise that the Castle Town has to be kept intact when you play Child Link, but one point that bugs me in OoT is that everyone states the castle was attacked by Gerudo, yet the soldiers are all still there and life in the Castle Town is completly unaffected by the attack.

- The sidequest for Biggorons sword is really weird in OoT, with the strange monster in the Lost Woods and the old hag in the Potion shop. There is also this strange Kokiri girl who is laughing her ass off because she thinks you will turn into a stalfos. There was no way to understand what is going on in the original OoT, in the remake they should make it understandable.

- Ocarina songs and the music in general were an important part of the game and should NOT change, just be redone in high quality.

- The Light Temple/the sacred realm would be interesting to see, but its not a must have.

- Riding Epona as a child, however, is a must have. Its annyoing to run around in Hyrule Field without her. Also, she should be able to enter all the areas she could not in the original (Kokiri Village, Kakariko, Hyrule Castle Town etc...).

- There should be more sidequests to make the world of Hyrule feel more alive. Also, if possible, NPCs should not repeating their one single line for eternity after you have finished an area. I realise that this is difficult, though.

- Dungeon design could change drastically, but the Overworld should not be too different from the original.

- More necessary time-travel. You should have to do more things in the past in order to proceed with Adult Link.

- The number of Gold skultulas should be significantly less.

- The mask trading should be expanded, and the mask should have effects like in MM. (Not the same effects, of course).

Re: The Remake Thread

In order of what I would like Majora Mask, Aol, then the OoX. Remakes don't ruin series. Take resident Evil 1, It didn't NEED aremake but what they did with it made it reguarded as one of the best if not the best game of the series and one of the best games for its console generation. AoL and the OoX would have a chance to be greatly fleshed out and make the lands there in a change of pace and define more of the world.

Re: The Remake Thread

I agree 100%, especially Navi interacting with NPC's, thawing Zora's Domain, and more Ganondorf consequences. I like your idea of Ganondorf attacking Lon Lon ranch, especially right after you get Epona. It would be fun to fend off a ton of enemies from horseback.

The only thing I might add would be more good things to buy with rupees. There were like 3 points in the game where you needed like 500 rupees all at once, and then the rest of the game they were pretty much useless, unless you went through a lot of deku nuts. And even then, there was never a place to buy them when you needed them. Maybe something else to buy, such as upgrades, skultula locations, heart peice locations, and cool looking tunics.

More personality for Navi would also help in making her depature more emotional for the player and understand Link's desire for finding her again in MM.

Yes, it would be fun, and it would also help to stop Ganondorf looking like an incompetent idiot. I mean, he is menacing during the child part of the game, but as soon as he has taken over, he does _NOTHING_ anymore. He should definitly strike back a few times. Lon Lon Ranch is next to Castle Town ! Ganondorf has the Triforce Of Power. Why should he accept that Link brings Talon back ? Thats one of the things I like about the OoT manga. In the manga, Link and Malon have to escape from Lon Lon Ranch with Epona, and the ranch is destroyed. Also, Hyrule Field turns from a beautiful landscape into a desert-like area in the manga.

A good idea. I never thought about this, but now that you have mentioned it... rupees were kinda useless in OoT. It shouldn't be too difficult to make it more useful in a remake, and it would help to improve the game a lot.

Well the Franchise is fine where it is imo, but if I had to say it...

I would go for a 3D version of The Minish Cap. Just because the Cane of Pacci would be fun in 3D.

I mentioned this in another thread but I would love to see a graphical remake of ALttP for the DS. I think it would be great if they did it in the same fashion that FFIV was. 2.5 D overhead view, enhanced graphics and music. That would be awesome! As long as it remained true to the original and they didn't try to add abunch of worthless new crap. I love ALttP!!

AoL could be a good candidate as well.

AoL would be awesome in 3D. The explorable area would be HUGE and using the jump spell and all the other spells would be awesome.

Btw, Nintendo already made a 16-bit remake of TLoZ for the BS-X.

But this version just "enhances" the graphics, not the gameplay.

I personally prefer enhanced rereleases or modified versions like Link's Awakening DX or Master Quest, but full remakes would be a waste of time and potential, which they should invest in a new Zelda game. And I fail to see, why any of the games after the NES classics would require a remake. They're all awesome the way they are.

A remake would just be a waste of everyone's time. Imagine if on next e3 miyamoto said: "sorry, we didn't make a new zelda game after all, but have this remake of a game you've played one million times before."

Re: The Remake Thread

I'm not really a huge fan of remakes.

If any Zelda game were to be remade, however, I'd like to see a 3D version of Link's Awakening.

What about OoT with all the stuff they had planned to add, but had to cut out. Like the extra temples, etc.

And I agree with Maritimus, except for the Epona part. I know it's a pain in the ass running around Hyrule but when you're a kid, Malon still takes care of her remember. You don't receive Epona until you win the race, as an adult, in which case not as a child.

I didn't say anything against it, I have no clue about Final Fantasy and its games. Please just read the first post of this thread until the end and THEN read my post. It was not supposed to be taken seriously.

A lot of the stuff that was cut from OoT can be found from later games. Remember wind temple from WW, hyrule castle, the sewers and the temple of time from TP for example? And quite possibly we'll see stuff like the temple of light in zelda wii, we don't need an OoT remake for that stuff, or any remake for any stuff.
