Pre-Unification Hyrule: Multiple Kingdoms
I think it would be interesting to see multiple, established kingdoms throughout the land of Hyrule, instead of one Hyrule Castle and a few tribe-dwelling areas (Goron City, Zora's Domain, etc.)
What if Nintendo made a game that took place before Hyrule was unified as one land, or maybe a game that led to its unification? Such a land might contain not only a Hyrule Castle, but also a Goron Castle, Zora Castle, etc. Perhaps Link would have to travel through various terrain settings and obstacles to reach each foreign kingdom, including traveling by horse over land, and by boat over sea. Not trying to create a fanfic idea for the next game, but it wouldn't be that farfetched, in my opinion, for Nintendo to create a game that shows how Hyrule became unified after a great war (this story is told in OoT, I believe, if not other games as well?) Does anyone have any input as to why or why not this would be a good idea? |

Re: Pre-Unification Hyrule: Multiple Kingdoms
Some spoilers ahead for those who haven't played LOZ: OOT or LOZ: TP.
5 4 3 2 1 I'd like to see a future TLoZ game experiment with making the game's "big bad" strictly someone with whom Link has a strong connection, whether familial or friendship. (Of course, a given Link has had to battle acquaintences/friends before such as Skull Kid in Majora's Mask, the Gerudo woman in OOT, and Zelda in TP, for example.). As far as I know, Link has never had to question or struggle with whether or not to fight and destroy Ganon/Ganondorf/etc. Of course, this is part of the draw of the series, black is usually black and white is usually white. And Link is white (there are hints of a dark side to our protagonist throughout the series) for all intents and purposes. But what if we had to question whether what Link was doing was wrong, and whether his "enemy" was right? I know this sounds like I'm also asking for a choose-your-own-path game. Not necessarily. Again, it'd be a bit of an experiment for a future LOZ game to address. Considering for instance the original point in this thread, what if Link ever found himself fighting for the wrong side? Or maybe there is no wrong side per say, which a game addressing a pre-unified Hyrule could perhaps address. Who knows? The story opportunities here are promising. 1 2 3 4 5 End spoilers

Re: Pre-Unification Hyrule: Multiple Kingdoms
I think it would be interesting to see the inhabitants of Hyrule spread out through multiple city-states, similar to ancient Greece. In times of need, they come together under a single, unified government until the crisis is averted. In time, this could lead to the permanent unified government we know and love.

Re: Pre-Unification Hyrule: Multiple Kingdoms
The best thing about this concept, I think, is that we would be able to see so much more of each race's culture:
Imagine an entire kingdom full of Gorons, much than larger than Goron City or Snowhead Mountain, full of different Goron characters, with their own sidequests and minigames- the equivalent of Hyrule Castle in TP (except no more NPCs that you can't talk to), except all Gorons. Now imagine the same thing with Zoras, Dekus, etc. Maybe even some other races that end up siding with Ganondorf instead of the Hyrulians (a kingdom full of Lizalfos?!) Maybe some new races, maybe even an entire tribe of Sheikahs? This would make the game HUGELY immersive, in my opinion. |
