Social Group voting

Wouldn't voting for a group you're in count as voting for yourself?

Lets take "Best Social Group". Three groups are in the running. Group A has 15 members, Group B has 30 members, and group C has 50 members. If you're in Group B, why would you vote for Group C, and vise versa. The group with the most members would win, no? It isn't voting for the best debater, it's voting for an entire group.

Specifically I'm talking about the Humulation Army. It's the largest group in that particular running, and all it's members will be voting for the army. It isn't so much a contest as it is who has the larger population.

So does voting for a group you're in count as voting for yourself? The voting process wouldn't be fair if a large group was running against smaller groups.

Re: Social Group voting

The ZU awards? A popularity contest? Nooooooooooo. Couldn't be.

It's just the nature of the awards. It's like saying you can't vote for a friend (which happens a lot) because you're biased towards them, and so your vote won't be counted.

Social groups are a new thing on ZU, and these are the first awards to handle them. While the outcome of these awards will most likely influence how Social Group awards are handled in the future, perhaps to combat some of the problems you stated, there really isn't much of crisis to warrant any current action.

So the staff allowed those three categories to be allowed in the '08 summer awards even after knowing that this would arise, or it's something they didn't anticipate would happen?

Re: Social Group voting

Babe if you like a social group enough to vote it best, you're probably going to want to be part of it. Not being able to vote for your own groups is quite silly.

Because then there's no fun in the voting process.

Re: Social Group voting

But there's no point in it, anyway.

Bigger = Better

Better = Wins

Bigger = Wins

Re: Social Group voting

There's also the idea that membership overlaps. Chances are that some of the 30 people in one social group are going to also be members of the one with 15 members. Or at least it's a possibiity. Since they can't vote for both, they have to chose. So it's not....entirely flawed.

Re: Social Group voting

Actually, for Best Group award, Humulation Army (97 members) is beating Cody Fanclub (121 members) by a quite large margin--and the latter is the largest social group on ZU.
