Why is there so much religious discussion going on in the Serious Discussion forum? Why is this such a popular issue? I wouldn't bring this up, if not for the fact that all the religious threads end up with the same discussion. There is little to no difference that I can see there. It just goes around in circles. Does anyone else think that it's getting too repetitive?

Atheists want to prove religious people wrong in everything, and Christians want to scare atheists into conversion by claiming they're going to hell.

Oh, and Mormons are constantly being blamed as sexist and polygamist, which are both false accusations that I'm becoming very sick of seeing.

Maybe there are so many threads on religion because people think it's worth discussing? Honestly, pretty much every section repeat the same couple of topics.

Won't any religion thread just turn into a big religion fight?

Well, yes but not to the extent of religious debates. There's always at least two, and they both are always way too similar.

Hey! We're all not out to convert the masses, thank you very much, you polygamist bastard! XD

Butttt, I kinda understand. They all end up boiling down to the same exact discussions and arguments. However, there's no way to really change that, its just human nature. There'll always be pointless religious debates until one is proven true, and that's just how it is.

Indeed, they do end up getting similar (though recently they've managed to stay pretty different, which is nice.)

But just merging them is annoying to everyone (you never merge two threads with a combined post count of above 10 or so, unless you like confusion.

And locking one of them would end that discussion, which is always annoying to everyone.

So, that leaves not letting theads go there, which means that you can't have organically growing discussions, which is kinda bad.



So, really, this'll keep happening until I decide to clamp down on every thread and make them stay exactly on topic, or until people stop caring about religion.

Well, you could only allow one every few weeks or so... But whatever.

Heh, I could, but I seem to be going through a "hands off" moderation phase. (or I'm lazy, you be the judge!).

Unless a post breaks the rules I leave it, and having multiple threads converge on one topic is not currently against the rules.
