Internet: Serious Business isn't serious enough!

How can people be atheists? It doesn't make sense.

I don't know, maybe I'm just a grumpy bat tonight but with this thread as an example, I've noticed (or at least I think I have) I:SB seeming to get a little... well, lax? It's not a huge deal and I kind of feel like a prick for making this thread, but I'm noticing a few one-liners passing through the system when they didn't seem to to before, yet every once in a while, I've seen entire posts deleted because they weren't deemed 'serious enough'.

Well, I just thought I'd say something, but it seems the general quality of posts within I:SB seems lacking lately.

Mmyeah.

While millions of still-born fetuses hit the ground with a thud, and millions more are ravaged by disease, it is some relief to know that his face will appear in home-made pies with alarming regularity.

It probably depends on if GDwarf had his morning coffee or not.

Heh, I miss things and I make judgement calls from time to time, which can result in things being a bit unevenly modded.

However, if you think that something isn't fair or is out of line feel free to drop me a PM about it.

*laughs*

so it's people like yOU Asmodeus, making sure the I:SB remains out of bounds for us peace-loving gentle folk! :<

YAY FOR GDWARF BECOMING LESS.. FOR SOME REASON ALL THE WORDS I'M THINKING OF SOUND WRONG :X

But yeah, GDwarf is fine is fine as 'e is if it means he's more accomodating. So long as contributions aren't worthless, I don't see why a one liner should be a NO WAY thing in I:SB :p
If it makes it more accessible to a larger variety of people and stop the monopoly that it has had with the exaxct same members and the same ruthless atmosphere it had before, that can only be a good thing.

Indeed.

As a rule of thumb one-liners aren't allowed, but if you can make a good point in that small amount of text then more power to you.

I only wish the people who mark essays felt the same way...

Title: Did Augustus hide a dictatorship behind a facade of the Republic?

Essay: Well, duh.

Ah, but at least essays don't fight back with information that is actually completely and utterly wrong...which I've noticed happens a lot in the regularly-schedualed Evolution vs. Religion threads.

Admit it, essay-writing would be more interesting if your paper argued with you.

Not really. I have enough trouble arguing with myself over which arguments would actually work.

That's why the medieval philosophers argued with themselves.

Liah-- I don't see what's so bad about your post. You've just formulated, more succinctly, every post in I:SB.

I'm still curious as to why Gaming: Serious Business has not merged with I:SB yet.

^ I frequent one, and usually treat the other like the plague. That's reason enough.

Liah didn't mean she was in trouble by ZU standards - just that she knows how I react when she does things like that.

*goes back to chasing Liah*

I declare that all threads/posts in SB must be at least Serious Sam on the Serious rating scale or face deletion!

If any of you have ever heard Just A Minute on the radio, Nicholas Parsons will hand out points for interuptions (even when made incorrectly) if the following comment makes the auidiance laugh.

Maybe a little leeway for amusing comments, as long as people don't over do it (and they don't from what I have seen on I:SB), or do so with horrible grammer. Which really is unforgivable.

Basically, I think that I:SB is perfectly okay as it is.

Last edited by Sam250; 04-18-2008 at 04:37 PM. Reason: Grammer, amusingly.

I must allow myself an entirely off topic post to say that I lost most of my respect for New Advent after reading their article on Arianism.

New Advent merely reproduced the Catholic Encyclopedia. It also has a good source of patristics and a translation of the summa.

The old Catholic Encyclopedia is good, but not without errors. One is advised to steer clear of its treatment of the Eastern Churches in particular. But it can be endless hours of fun. For instance, "beard" and "hair (in Christian Antiquity)." For instance:
Quote:
we have a law of King Alfred: "If a man shave off another's beard let him make amends with twenty shillings. If he bind him first and then shave him like a priest (hine to preoste bescire) let him make amends with sixty shillings."
Like I said, hours of entertainment.
