He's not 6. He's 13, I would guess. That page is old.

There isn't an age requirement for registering, although anyone under the age of 11 I would say is pretty much unheard of on the internet.

For one thing, donating to the site doesn't mean you visit the forums at all. There are many people who haven't signed up on the forums but frequent the main site.

It all depends on the maturity of the person, regardless of age. The first forum I ever joined was a fairly big one, and I joined at age 11 or 12. I guess acted well and maturely enough, as I became a mod in less than a year, and then a supermod a year or so after that.

A question:

If you are under the age of 13 can those people still go into ISB forum? Or can just anyone go there...

I believe under COPPA no one under 13 can register here (Or anywhere) without their parent's consent.

I agree, you could join a forum at the age of 10, maybe even 9 if you were mature enough.

Technically I think you're legally supposed to be 13.

However, we have no real way of verifying that that doesn't rely on the honour system.

I mean, really, how could we stop people younger than 13 from registering?

Include a history test upon registration. Include questions about events from about 10 years ago. Either that, or we could just leave it the way its always been, I see no problems as long as the user has good grammar and spelling.

That wouldn't be fair to those who just want to discuss other things, now would it?
Anyways, it doesn't matter how old you are, as long as you're mature enough.

So now people who don't care about modern history can't join.

Or, perhaps they could do what anyone else would do, and just look up the answers.

It might help clear up some misconceptions of world events in I:SB if people we're questioned on modern times. I'm sure Jason would love it if we included an essay section. I mean I had to write one to get into college, why not one to get onto ZU?

it isn't a good idea to make a history test upon registration

I have an odd sense of humor, all of my jokes are delivered through inflection in my voice, which is quite impossible on the internet.

Simply put ZU is not college. If I found out I had to write a dumb essay to join a Zelda fansite I would skip this site and go to somewhere else. ZU should be a place where people can just sit down and discuss Zelda like the nerds we all are, sometimes beable to take on a healthy debate on some subject in I:SB. I mean do you really want a bunch of people to write some dumb essay to get onto ZU? That would drive away any possible future members. Now unless ZU is handing out degrees... then no.

As for the test of recent events in the last 10 years.

When I was thirteen I could careless what happened when I was 3. I was more concerned about the future then the past. Also whats to prevent someone from going on Google while taking the test. Also it would drive future members aways.

Age doesn't have anything to do with it. It's all about maturity. There are some members on this forum right now that are acting a lot younger than they really are. Should they be allowed to stay? Well, it's legal and they aren't causing a ton of ruckus, but I think it's stupid.

Maturity has more to do with how ready you are for the internet than anything else.

Holy crap, do I seriously have to type out "haha" or 'lol" after I make a joke. Jeez, you people need to read into words to find their actual meaning.

So if it is nearly impossibly to deliver a joke through the internet, then yes, some assistance may be needed (also comedic timing, which can sorta be done on chatrooms).

I took the time to read that law. Under COPPA, no one under 13 can register at a website that requires the collection of personal information. This does not include email address. ZU does not collect personal information, and therefore COPPA does not apply to ZU.
