Lack of gender notification?

One thing that has really been bugging me lately is that in order to tell what gender someone is, you need to check their user profile. This can be very inconvinient if you are in the middle of a post. So if I am in a rush, I guess. And more then once, I've been wrong.

For example (When I was still kinda new to the board), I made the fatal mistake of thinking Blizzaga was a girl. I know. It was embarasing. So, I ask for some way to show someone's gender next to their posts, in the same way the location in shown. It would help much, me-thinks.

Please and thank you! =)

Re: Lack of gender notification?

I agree. So many people seem to think that Awkin is a girl that he may just switch genders through the power of belief.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

Some people might not want it to be seen, which could be why it isn't shown. But there could be option to not show it, or they could not fill it in, I guess.

But that is just speculation. I'll let a mod give you a definite answer.

EDIT: Well, Cody gave his opinion, but not a definite answer.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

^ Well, those people could have the option to have it show or not, kind of like the flag and the Wii ID's.

I agree with this idea one-hundred percent. HelmarocKing wasn't the first one to think I was female.

Apparently, naming yourself after an ice spell isn't masculine. :XD

:XD

The minimum height of a post is just going to get larger and larger as you guys add more user information.

Hey, if we can take post count off, I'd vote for gender addition.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

Not a bad idea at all. I am sure there is a addon or something for VB to give the user the option of displaying it.

Shall this be done? I don't know, but I don't see why not.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

I don't see why location is next to our posts; couldn't it be swapped for that?

It should be a option, though. Male, Female or No Answer--so we don't get vague answers.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

would be nice for an option. But unless I know, or am almost certain of someones gender I try and avoid using He and She and such and just use the username.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

You could do what I do. Bring up a new window (or tab). Whenever I need to check something I open up another tab and check what I need.

But I do admit, it would be very helpful.

That's fine for short posts, but it can become awfully repetitive if you'd rather say he or she instead of the person's name all the time.

I think it was they A's near the end that threw me off... >.>

And I'm glad to see so much support! Thanks!

@Desquote: Yeah, but like I said, what if your in a rush?

And yeah, we wouldn't need that much space for it, not even a line. Just a gender sign next to your name or something... something quick and easy to identify...

Oh, yeah! A gender sign! That's a great idea! It could go along with the other little icons in the same row.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to be a decent mod to do this. So, I can't do what I was hoping to have done a few minutes ago, which was add the mod, reply saying "Of course we have that! Duh!"

But...yeah, I can do it.

Re: Lack of gender notification?

Sweet! I like this idea. It'll be so much more easier now, no more worrying about getting someone's gender wrong. xD And as Kitsune said, why do we even have our location beneath our names? We have our national flags so there's little reason to have both... and I've only seen one or two people during my entire three years here that have actually put their real location there.
