Please, enough with the stealth modding.

I get it, you want to keep the boards clean. I'm not arguing that you can/can't delete my posts, and the posts of others... but if you do, can you either have a PM sent saying "Your post X in topic Y was deleted", or edit the post so it just says "deleted", but at least you posted there?

Why do you want a notice in the thread that you posted there? Not that it's a problem, I just don't get it.

If you have an issue, PM a mod and ask why that specific post was deleted and they will tell you.

I don't even need to know why it is deleted, although an automated reason would be grand. It helps me keep track of what I was discussing, and if my post was deleted, how to rework my post into something more constructive.

I just looked at your account and couldn't see any recently deleted posts. I must not have powers over the part of the forum where this happened.

Can you tell me the Thread please? I'll try and help you with your problem.

Oh, it happens all the time over in the "Serious Business" forum, in multiple threads. Either my posts randomly disappear or someone's doing some stealth modding.

I've had my posts deleted there, too. In general for I:SB, if the post isn't up to par, it just gets deleted.

Re: Please, enough with the stealth modding.

You talk like your post contributed to discussion. It did not, so it was removed by a mod.

Perhaps if it did contribute, it'd still be there?

Unfortunately, I can't help you out, but I'll forward the message to the mod there. Also, just make sure you put LOTS of thought into your posts and make sure that you're making sense and that it's lengthy. The rules are very hardcore in there and it's very strict.

I talk as if I am fine with my posts being deleted, and that I /want/ to contribute to discussion, but by stealth modding and not telling me A) Why, specifically, a post was deleted and B) that it was deleted at all, it kind of prevents that, now doesn't it?

Re: Please, enough with the stealth modding.

I'm not convinced.

If you want to contribute to the discussion, then do so. Attacking someone without providing any additional input is not contribution, and such a thing should not require GDw (as the Mod of Seriousness), or any other mod, to have to tell each and every person who posts something inane that they're posting something inane or inappropriate.

Hence my suggestion of an automated system. When a mod deletes a post, he can simply check a box for "profanity", "harassment", "inanity" et cetera, or an "other" field to add a message if he or she so chooses.

Or, in the least, I should get an automated PM that my post was moderated, which I believe is standard on most boards using vBulletin.

Re: Please, enough with the stealth modding.

It is not standard, no. There is no built-in feature to do that.

It is often necessary to delete numerous posts at once, so individually labeling them is not often viable.

Re: Please, enough with the stealth modding.

If it's in I:SB, then there's no reason for a mod to clog up the thread by keeping blank posts in there. It's the one forum that is obviously moderated more strictly than the rest, and posts are obviously going to be deleted there more often than in other forums.

As a way of balancing things out though, this should lead to just the editing out of posts in other forums. The posts there aren't nearly as important, and many people can just scan over them without really missing much, if anything. It therefore makes sense, and is only courteous, that unless under special circumstances posts should just be edited out, not deleted, outside of I:SB.

Re: Please, enough with the stealth modding.

:XD

Keep in mind that courtesy is a two-way street. A lot of what gets deleted is spam that should not have been to start with. I try to keep things balanced as much as possible.

"yeah i agree" is a typical post that I find myself deleting. There's not much to edit out.
