ZU going down?

I've been noticing that ZU forums always seem to go down at 6AM GMT, every day. Could someone tell me why this might be happening, and if it's just me, or what the deal with it is?

It's probably the reboot. Due to hacker attacks, the webmasters altered the site to keep a backup of everyday, as hackers would attack every week on Sunday and destroy an entire week's worth of posts.

Ah, so we have an automatic backup that runs while most of ZU is asleep. Makes sense. Okay, thanks, this can probably be locked now, assuming that is what's going on.

It doesn't reboot, it just takes a lot of processor power to do a backup. There's a lot of data around here. Hence I had set it to do it Mondays at that time.

Jason changed it to daily, though.

I'll clarify and state that I have it set to do incremental backups, a la OS X's Time Machine, so that it doesn't take too long to do each backup. It only backs up what has changed, but it does that every day.

Jason, a point to ponder is that everything on ZU is database-driven: The database changes in a very large way every day.

But the files don't, saving the backup a lot of time and energy. (And the files, as far as I know, weigh more than the database does when put on a scale.)

Yes, they do weigh more, but not by all that much.

All the same, I will concede that not backing them up every time does cut down on site slowness at backup time.
