Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
Sear's Edit: Since this was taking up so much space in the Community Thread, I split the discussion.
well, me posting to say that the new sig rules suck. some of the inclusions are just stupid. why should smilies count as pics, theyre so FREAKIN SMALL. plus it takes coding, not a host. and i can understand three lines, but a limit on the actual number of chars is dumb. who cares if it reaches the end of the page or not? i had to actually count my char number. i think that the rules are just over the top. sure a change was due, but not one so unreal well, thats my say :: EA out ::

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
hehe, yeah, the new siggie thing is a bit rigid, but it keeps out ANY loopholes... I have my browser set to 1024x768, and 250 characters can fit into three lines EASILY. but if there's someone with a browser that's... say... something absurdly huge like 1600x1200 (i know some people do, but my computer doesn't even go UP to that...), then there's no way they can have siggie lines that end up stretching to 500 characters or something like that and take up 8 lines on the average person's setting... also any difference that people have in texts are accounted for here... so people can't have too much writing in an absurdly small font that defeats the purpose of ANYTHING being there....
yeah, that's exaggerating, but does it make the point? :::points to image::: my settings vs a REALLY small one

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
... wow, if that many people have a problem with it, why not bring it up in feedback? no need to just sit back and brood about how much it stinks... we'll be more than happy to lighten it a bit if people hate it THAT much...

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
Well, small sigs, like the mini banner I have, the one that say Farore on it, doesn't need to be reduced, but others, like sigs way over the limit the rules allow, and if you don't do anything about it, the mods will take action by giving the person with the sig a warning and reducing it's size to the limitations. Personally, I'm glad that they made these new rules, and Andi, I think our browsers are on the same resolution because there are only three lines in e-alert's sig.

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
e_alert, the problem was that signatures were literally taking up half a page. They were much, much too big, and really made everything much less clean looking. We don't need to have people saying five times as much as a normal post in their signatures. They may seem a bit harsh, but I'm sure you'll grow to appreciate them. Who knows, they may even be loosened a bit in the future.
Oh, and for those of you that saw that slip-up...splitting/merging is hard. :p |

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
Yeah, lets make that a rule. Your sig cannot consist of more than twice the size of your normal post. It will make rich men out of some and paupers out of others.
![]() Sigs have to be practical. They also have to be concise. There is no need for a huge sig- granted the occasional exception-. It should help define you, but it should never solely define you. Its an appetizer, not a three-course dinner! It gets very annoying to scroll past those enormous sigs time and again. A small sig allows the forums to be more organized. I personally find the thinner sigs much more stylish. Like Sear's for example, which is 2/3rds the height of mine. If I ever request a sig in my long tenure here, it will be short not because I have to, but because I'd like it better that way. EDIT: The line that gives credit to the signature artist should not be counted among the lines allowed because most people don't make their own sigs and it does take up a line regardless. I wouldn't want things to look silly and cramped if I had to shove poor ol' pip onto one of my adoption lines.

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
e_alert... really. Just deal with it. Just because you like seeing the same thing repeated over and voer again doesn't mean the rest of us do.

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
Indeed. We've asked many people about this through both Private Messages and on the ZU Chat, and they have all agreed with the rules. We can't change it simply because there is a minority of people who cannot accept the fact that they have to either resize their signature images and reconfigure their signature's layout.
Bobslob, making the fourth line reserved only for giving credit to the signature maker (if there is one) would make for a good exception to the rule. I'm not sure if l-o-s can edit the current Announcement, but If he agrees, he can always re-post it with the new rule taken into account. |

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
I personally don't care how small you make the signatures, the smaller the better for me and my computer.
I think small sigs look 100 times more appealing to the eye than the large mass of text and images. I think the small stuff is great, I very much agree with this new sig rule. It makes people veiw more upon the text in a post than the pages of signatures, which I hate so much. Just be glad they aren't banned altogether, were not to that.......yet. |

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
Well I agree with Bobslob, "Thank you" lines should not be counted in the line count... for about 1/2 the mebers this limits them to 2 lines to express themselves in, People may even stop giving credit so that they can get the most out of their 3 lines. I also wonder if people should be allowed 1 image under 100x100 (or something like that) that doesn't count as one of their 2 images, that way small clan or adpotion blinkies can still be allowed, it's not like they take up that much room.

Re: New Signature Rules Discussion
... if you want to, you can always pull a Davidia (formerly known as pulling a Chuc) - take your siggie and an extra little siggie you want to combine and just place the smaller one over the corner of the other... it looks especially nice (so i think) if you actually take the smaller sig and make it slightly opaque...
http://www.mrlafazia.com/pics/sig2004.gif <--davidia's and just ask someone with a photo editing program that contains an opacity changer to toss in a little clan image on top of your usual siggie...

You can also merge smilies into your main signature, but if their animated, your gonna have to edit the animation by putting the main signature behind every frame (which shouldn't be too much work), and saving it as a format that can support animation (like .gif, though you would be loosing a bit of colour choice..). |
