Post Stuff that would help the forums become easier to view.

I think you shouldn't be able to name threads with names that don't tell you whats in it like "isnt this cool" or "what the?!?" They just irritate me and they make the forums look, no offense, a little trashy. Please don't get angry, it's just a suggestion.

Yeah, I find it somewhat annoying. Most people post relevant topic names, but occasionally we get something that makes you believe the topic will be about one thing, then it's about a completely different thing.

*votes in favour*

Of course, something like that is really hard to enforce, and any idiot who does stuff like that repeatedly usually ends up getting themselves banned pretty quickly.

erm, well, if a name is COMPLETELY horrid like that, a mod for that section can change it easily (such as the "and the winner is..." topic name change). it doesn't happen enough to need a rule, and if it does, it's just a newbie mistake...

there's no harm in it, really - a topic with a name like that might get a lot of views out of curiousity, but it's the quality of the topic itself that will get people to stay.

and anyway - how can you control what people name their topics?

Hehe, yes, Zelda Freak's Saddam topic (silly me).

Only if it is way off of what it is. Sometimes a topic won't mean anything to you unless you know what it is. What if I named the topic, for instance, Sasae Tsuri Komi Ashi? Do you know (or care) that it is a Lifting pulling ankle block? It certaintly might be right on topic, say if I won a Judo tournament with that throw. But who is going to know what that is?

Names that are intentionally misleading, or completely off-topic, mods already have power to clean up (the common sense rule). And mostly, bad topic names can be changed with the help of a friendly moderator. I think the system works fine.

Edit: Oh well,I couldn't get the direct link to Sasae tsuri komi ashi so you'll have to make due with the one up there.

And ZF, you didnt see the topic I made on it? Despite the fact yours and another locked one were up. Hehe, there was sillyness all around.

Yeah that was a dumbass move by me in that case. :p But for the first topic i had made in however long the topic itself wasn't bad

Yeha Vague names aren't good, kids. Don't do that, it's the gateway to bad topics. And if you feel liek making one don'
t do it and remember to take a bite out of crime

But there is really no way to enforce it, except by having people not do it. The other thing that isn't good with topic names as i see it are "official" topics.

Is it possible to incorporate sub-headings? Like in a smaller and lighter-coloured font to the actual topic name?

Yes, that's a good idea, Chuc. Quite a few forums I've visited have had those, and it allows for titles like this. The only problem I can see is if the people put another bad description in the sub-heading, like "Did you know..." and then "Please read!".

That's a great idea! I'm am going to go post a thread with that as a poll. If you want to talk about it, you should go there.
