Re: Why not an Arcade
If we made them Zelda related then Nintendo would probably sue, they've done so to other sites that offered programs related to Zelda. In fact, there was a big sweep not all that long ago.
If the games aren't Zelda related, then there really isn't any point.

Re: Why not an Arcade
Not really. Who'd make these games? Why would they give them to us to publish? Programs such as Zelda Classic already have well-established hosting sites, and would have no need of ZU. People making Flash games could get far more exposure on other websites, unless they didn't feel that it was worth paying someone to host their programs, in which case they probably aren't worth hosting.
Games are great for dedicated games sites, but they serve little purpose in any other kind.

O.o Really? Okay. Well, if you have a decent reason (which that is, though it is a bit too simple ) Then we'll leave it at that.

Re: Why not an Arcade
It's unlikely Nintendo would sue if ZU didn't make any profit from it.
But yeah, ZU doesn't need a gimicky arcade. There are specialist sites for things like that.

Re: Why not an Arcade
What's gimicky about it? It wouldn't be to draw in people, it'd just be for the members to kick back and play something whenever they wanted to. The one forum I go to that has a fairly large one often has tournaments with the games, and they have all kinds of rankings for it. It's a Kaiju forum, by the way, so it's not like the arcade really fits with the theme, as it doesn't need to be.
If it was ever truly considered for ZU, I'd support one. I love arcade games, and I think it'd be neat to compete with the rest of the members, since we're all game fanatics. |

We want to keep it piracy free as much as possible, so no ROMS at all.

Re: Why not an Arcade
There's also a major problem with every flash-based forum arcade out there, and that involves a lovely exploit that lets you fake your scores. The problem lies not within the arcade script, nor how the games themselves are made, but how IE and Flash work together.
If said arcade were to be implemented here, there would need to be a really dedicated mod team looking at every score and its related data to see if it is a fake. And considering how many active members there are here... |

Re: Why not an Arcade
I would support an arcade. I mean, I love posting on ZU, but when I'm waiting for replies to my topic/post, it can get pretty dull. This is where an arcade could come in. It would be a great way to pass the time, even if it were just flash games. Emulators would be neat too, but if you were going for simplicity, I wouldn't mind flash.

Re: Why not an Arcade
I would also support an arcade here at ZU. I find them very enjoyable and a good way to pass the time while waiting for replies/ideas for new posts/whatever. And if you are worried about it being a cheap gimmick, why not take that to your advanage? How? Well, you can set it up that posting can earn tokens to use in the arcade. I'm sure people would say that members would do nothing but spam to get tokens. You can take that to your advantage too. Set it up where a post as to be so long before earning a token and mods can make sure that spammy posting won't earn tokens.
If you don't like the token idea, you can make it so only members with a certain number of posts (I'd say between thirty and fifty) are able to play in the arcade. This would encourage members to stay active.
