Suggestion

The general gaming forum has been through hell this week. Not that it's ever good, but it's particularly worsening. With discussion ranging from the 360 controller to graphical capablities to Link vs Master Chief, it's really unorganized. It's massively cluttered and the general lack of intelligence doesn't make things better. Possible solution? Platform specific subforums. Here how thing might work.

General Gaming
- Subforum Classic Gaming (what its name implies)
- Subforum Not classic/Not next gen (dreamcast, etc..)
- Subforum Microsoft (the box and 360)
- Subforum Sony (strictly ps1, 2, and 3)
- Subforum Nintendo (strictly cube/revolution)
- Subforum PC gaming
- Subforum All handhelds

It has it's drawbacks but I think it would greatly reduce the clutter and it'd look more organized. It obviously did the same for the Entertainment forum.

Would it work? Is it worth taking into consideration?

Discuss.

Re: Suggestion

What would go in the gaming forum after all these are made? Wouldn't it take forever to figure out where to put a thread? It would also take forever to sort out all the threads in general gaming into these subforums as well.

Re: Suggestion

I won't go as far as to call it cluttered but, nothing is wrong with organizing things more. I don't mind the way the General Gaming forum is, I don't think there is a need for as many sub forums as you listed.
I think this would be good enough.

Subforum- Handhelds
Subforum- PC
Subforum- Nintendo
Subforum- Classic
Subforum- not Nintendo systems/ companies (I don't think I have a good name for this subforum though)

I think it's worth taking in consideration. Except call "Not classic/Not next gen" the "Semi-Classic Gaming" subforum.

The general gaming forum would include threads that don't apply to any specific console. Like some console wars.

Goron Knight: Let’s not seclude Sony and Microsoft in the subforums.

Wolfen: No names are final. I'm sure someone can come up with a decent name.

I wasn't secluding them, they just don't derserve to be even in the same breath as Nintendo. They can fall under an "everything else" subforum.

Re: Suggestion

Maybe not the exact sub-forums you laid out, but it may need them as it's one of the most popular sections of the forums.

Then again... maybe not. The Entertainment forum covers a much bigger range than that of General Gaming, so General Gaming may not need it as much.

That's really stupid. Nintendo are not kings. They should all be treated equally.

Re: Suggestion

Gaming is gaming. Honestly, I don't see as much of a need for this as there was for the Entertainment section. There, you had threads on books, bands, movies, TV shows and card games scattered haphazzardly about the first page of the section. All entertainment, yes, but entirely different, in thier own respect.

All of the proposed subforums relate to one one thing: games and gaming news, a topic much more finite than "Entertainment", which inarguably encompasses gaming as it is.

My two cents, anyhow. I' don't have the final word in this, that's for certain.

Re: Suggestion

I don't know if that many subsections are that necessary, but maybe breaking the forum into two subforums might make the forum look "tidier." If you have too many subforums, the individual boards may seem really dead and people wouldn't bother reading them much.

Maybe they could split the forum into an "Game (Titles) Discussion" for discussion of your favorite individual games, characters from games, reviews, etc. Then you could also have a "Hardware and Industry Discussion," where people could argue about their favorite systems, which system is kewler, which is more powerful, etc. Then you could separate all those "OMG Revolution!" threads from the Mario and Final Fantasy threads.

The big problem with separating it like that is that there might be a fuzzy line between what qualifies as a individual game thread and a thread about the features and the gaming industry...

Re: Suggestion

I did go over board with the 7 subforums. After some thought I've prepared a major revision of the supposed subforums.
The actual gaming forum would include discussion pertaining to specific games, similarly to its current state. Here's where we start to break it up.

- Subforum Console Wars
- Subforum Old School Gaming
- Subforum PC Gaming

This could arise some confusion as to where the topics might go, but I think this is clearer.

Tsukasa, how is the current state of general gaming different from the old entertainment? Gaming has as much, if not more branches as entertainment. Discussion is virtually limitless.

Jims has some great ideas but I can't realistically imagine too many people coming up with game reviews. Granted there are one or two hardware threads; that's about it.

I smell a fanboy.

I don't really see a need for it in the first place as I don't think it's really cluttered but I guess it couldn't hurt that much. But it could take ages to put the topics in there accordingly. Hm.

I like SuperKing's modified setup. Granted, I'm normally accustomed to splitting it into each console, plus one for PC gaming and then having a general forum that discusses mutiple consoles and other stuff, like the wars. Basic enough, but again, I'm not sure if it's that necessary since that was used in a gaming emphasized site(Their equalivlent of General Chit-Chat was barren in comparison).

Re: Suggestion

gaming could stand a little reoganization, though the system you proposed couls tand some work

try:
handhelds
computer
console

console could further be split into "oldschool" and "recent" because fo the sheer number fo games it encompases

I forgot to note, you forgot to make categories which would encompas systems like the old ataris, the sega genesis, nes and SNES/fanicom, N64 etc.

Re: Suggestion

@_@ More subsections means more clutter.

I'm with Tsukasa on this. Gaming is gaming and there's really no need to split it all up in subsections. We have so many subforums already, it'll just make things even more confusing if we were to seperate forums even more.
