Suggestion: text dump feature?

Hm... we all talk about quotes quite a bit, now don't we? I had an idea. A bunch of us ZUers would play through every Zelda 100% and copy down every single bit of text (the original versions as well as other versions). Then, you guys (staff) would organize this thread into a sort of text dump encyclopedia and put it on the main site.

So, is it a good idea?

Better yet, sort out the text dump into Game Script, Menu Text, Item Description, Sign/Gossip Stone/Whatever else you can read Text, etc. etc.

Or we could just get them off of another site which already has them!

With their permission, of course. I don't think many people will be willing to play through a game and get ALL the text... It's boring, though I may be wrong. I think the other sites use emulators to get all the text.

Nah, I wanted us to do this on our own. By *ahem* playing the actual game.

I'd be willing to help, but I doubt it would be of much use.

Why bother? My site already has text dumps or quote faqs on every single Zelda game so far, with the exception of the Minish Cap.

Yep, this is the site that I got them off of before. It's a great contribution. But I don't know if you used emulators, I just guess because it was under "Emulation" and, well... it would be extremely hard to get it all word for word by playing through the game.

I wouldnt really see the point of it, but if its what the members want...

Sounds fun. I tried that once with tWW and got bored.. but I'll try it again.

We could assign one game per every few people. That would make it a little more organized. I'll try OoT this time.

Thanks. Actually, I myself haven't worked on any of the text dumps or quote faqs, they were all done by other members of the staff, or by the previous webmaster. And yes, the text dumps were taken directly from roms. The quote faqs from tWW and FSA were typed up by someone playing through the game, however.

Well, still, let's just do this for the heck of it. I'm just finishing LoZ, I stayed up all night playing. And, I admit, I used my own walkthrough for underworld quotes.

Well, who's willing to do the GameCube/GBA versions, with the slightly different text? You know, people who actually have the game on GBA?
