Re: question about religious talk

It looks like we're bringing back Serious Discussion, a forum where poltics, morality, religion, and anything else "Serious" is to be discussed.

Nothing's set in stone, and to those who were here for the old one -- don't worry; it's not exactly as it was before.

So sit tight.

No no, and again no. I mean, jsut look at the last Serious Discussion and you'll see what I mean, really. It seems that many ZU'ers can't really handle such things, so yeah.

Re: question about religious talk

Ha. Just simply a Religious topic would create chaos, because arrogant and ignorant fools have no grasp of the reality that people have different values, beliefs, and morals. For some reason, I'd either want Religion to have its own separate sub-forum ONLY IF Serious Discussion returns, in fact, I'd rather it be banned from discussion. All it does is raise voices.

Re: question about religious talk

Perhaps there could be some system in which ZU members are allowed into the serious discussion, by applying a request to the MODS, who discuss and say whether or not a person is mature enough, based on posts and general attitude, and allow or don't allow that person to enter the Serious discussion threads - similarly to the Clan tests.
If a person is allowed into the forum, and begins misbehaving, he/she has her/his privallidge withdrawn, and is thrown out of the forum.

Tedious, inefficient, and a foolhardy ideal of yours. At least you tried, though. Even the seemingly most organized and knowledgable ALWAYS get frustrated and angry when they debate on occasion. You just can't have exchanging of views without even the slightest amount of aggression in most cases.

I guess so :embrsd:
But if people want to talk about religion, and issues that matter to them, how can they be expressed, if almost any religious topic is locked?

True, debates on such a large scale are hard to maintain, and you're also right that people cannot distinguish between their ideas on themselves, just because I think your economic plan is stupid doesn't mean I think you are. I'm also allowed to have my own opinion without threatening yours. Those are things that a vast number of ZU members seem to forget. If we did have a serious discussion I'd make it so that you need a Mod to add you into a group to post there, or have everyone start in the group and remove those that flame/cause trouble. Of course, I'm not in charge and that could get tedious. So I'll just rely on the mod's judgement.

Re: question about religious talk

Why not just make a rule that people can only enter the religion they believe in? There would be a lot less flaming.

Name one other Greek Orthodox follower here, apart from me!
See what I mean?
There are some very small ethnic minorities here, that there would hardly be anyone to discuss their religion with lol!

Re: question about religious talk

I agree with Superdecimal's idea on this. It makes alot of sense, I mean people are going to ask to talk about religion, and people will probably start flaming in those discussions, but If you granted them the privelege to post there using past behavior and a test as an idea of what they'll act like in that section then that would help keep some of the bad apples out. Furthermore, if you could revoke these privelages, people would watch what their doing a bit more. I would really like to see a serious discussion thread, because I don't know alot about the serious discussion topics. But if i were to read them I might grow a greater understanding on the topics.

Re: question about religious talk

*sigh* I miss the SD, surprisingly. There were some pretty good topics; ones I'd wish there were more of instead of needless, childish flaming. *sighs again*

Good point. But with all the newbies coming the won't understand serious decussion.
People will get flamed for religion. Some people will point out some aspects of a certain religion some people might not like. Most people are not mature enough for things like that.
So it's best not to discuss religion at all (some people will be "offended").

I think that if people are mature enough to express their views constructively, without sarcasm, or any attempt to offend deliberatly, there should be no need to be offended, the people who could possibly be 'offended' should be mature enough to accept that someone feels in a certan way, and respect their opinions.

People in the Serious Discussion must be Mature - and to kep out n00bs, I have already suggested that;

Well that is exactly the problem, it would take forever and become quite the hassel for the Mos to personally handle each person who wanted to join SD. That would take forever, there are thousands of memebers. That is why it simply wouldn't work.

Personally I'm glad talk of religion is banned. It causes to many useless arguments over nothing. Debates over religion were one of the main reasons SD was shut down, too many arguments were started by it. Debates I feel would be okay, but I still feel that Religion should be a forbidden discussion in SD, if and when it returns.

Re: question about religious talk

Aww... They're brining SD back? Darn.

They got rid of it just a month or so after I joined. At first I was pretty unhappy, but I think getting rid of it in the first place was a good idea. There seem to be a lot of radical debaters here, who can argue over any issue. It really annoyed me to see the constant bashing of righties by lefties, lefties by righties, and bashing of religions alltogether.

But, it is going to be different than before, I hope there will be less flaming and stuff.

Re: question about religious talk

Well, if they are bringing SD back it shouldnt be as bad as I've heard that it was. The staff wouldnt bring it back if they knew it was a bad idea. So it shouldnt be that bad.
