Musica

I've noticed the site's MP3 section is missing music from a few games, notably AOL and the Oracle series. If anyone can get ahold of music from these (or other) games, don't hesitate to submit them!
(I'm aware the MIDI section has some music from said games, but c'mon; I want to hear tunes straight from the source!)

Yeah, the main site has been missing a few things since it got re-launched. Sadly, I cannot help you with your problem.

The songs in the actual game are in a MIDI format, and to my knowledge there are no orchestrations of the songs from the first two games.

Re: Musica

Even games that are in MIDI format on their original systems need to be played in MP3 format to sound like they do on the original system though.

The way MIDI works on a PC is that the file tells the computer what instruments and effects to use when, and then the computer (soundcard, or whatever) uses a bunch of preset music samples. The thing is, different cards and comps have different sound samples, so it's impossible to get a MIDI file that sounds the same on more then a few systems.

Basically, even if the MIDIs on the site sound like they were taken straight from the game to you, they don't sound like that to everyone else.

MP3s fix that problem.

And besides, OoT and tWW used MIDI music, but there's no lack of MP3s for those.

Of course, all this reasoning doesn't change the fact that there doesn't really seem to be any MP3s of the music from AoL and the Oracles

Yes, I'm well aware. However, both the N64 and the GCN's system sports a quality for the MIDI files that is quite different from the pling-plong sounds the 8-bit gave out

True, true. My computer has been recently "upgraded," but the quality and realisticity of MIDI files has dropped drastically since. I'm an MP3 man, that I am.

Invest in a better sound card, then, if you're using your motherboard's on-board chip (probably an AC'97).
