Banned Users returning through duration

OK, something is haunting my mind all the time. I've been seeing that have either been Temporarily Banned, or fully Banned. But what's the problem? It's strange that i'm seeing them return, during the duration of the time they've been banned.

How are they returning while they've been banned? Is it a proxy?

Hm... I'm not sure if it works for people that are temporary banned or not, but on another vBulliten forum I go to, a banned user was online becuase the IP was blocked, not the user banned. So they were online, but still weren't allowed to post.

But yeah, it's really confusing, AND weird.

Many people switch their custom user name to say "Banned," which makes it appear like they are banned, when in fact they are not.

The issue of "un-banned" users is something else altogether.

That's not the case. I check their profile, and it says you can't send a PM, so it prooves the have actually been banned.

Please give me examples of users where this actually has happened/currently happens. A link to their profile would be helpful.

Note that via the control panel you may block private messages.

When an account is banned the user can still log in, but they don't have any privilages.

Well, he hasn't posted since april 30th, so he's still banned, I'd guess. I'd wager that it'll still register your activity, but that banning merely prevents you from posting, and that is the main point of it. To be honest, I've never heard of this before. I'm sure a mod will explain if we're patient.

EDIT: Amazing, sear and I said basically the same thing. Heh. Ok.

So that's why, thanks Sear, this can be locked by a mod now.

snake isn't banned. He changed his rank to Temperaroly Banned. It changes to Banned User when someone is banned.

Explain why you can't send a PM. Explain why he can't post. Explain why Temporarily Banned is a rank, and other users are.

Actually, no. With the new warning hack installed, if someone is banned then their ban goes away after 120 days, and their rank changes to "Temporarily Banned" for the duration. If a user is permanently banned (not going to happen as often anymore) then their rank is changed to "Banned User."

I thought it was 90 days ban duration, last time I checked the Warning System *shrugs*

Oh, and I think a mod accidently took he lock off this thread.

I don't know who closed it, but I unlocked it. In any case, bans are for 120 days, or permanent if we choose to make them so.

Correct me I'm wrong, but I believe I've seen a Banned User post even during his/her ban time. Is that right?

True, he's talking about banned users being active through the duration of their ban.

ah, i always thought that people just changed their ranks to banned, or temporarily banned. now it all makes sense.
