How do I add Fan Fiction to the Site?

I've seen a million topics on how to do anything fan fiction... So let's clear the clutter.

This is the basics on anything fan fiction. If I miss anything, please feel free to add it. This is a step by step process on the pages you'll view on your way to adding your fan fic to the ZU site.

First, you need to have a site/forum username. You can do that by registering at the forum or on the main site. Registration is free and takes like 5 seconds to accomplish.

Once you are logged in, go to this page to start your fan fiction adventure. From here, you'll see the links to the fictions already in the database. If you look above that and below the advertisement, you'll see some links to Add a Story, Control Panel, Your Favorite Authors and Stories, etc. Click on Add Story.

These are the items you'll see on the next page. Below, is everything you need to know about all the items you'll need to tell us about your fic in order to proceed.

You'll be on a page that asks you a few questions about your fan fiction. First, enter the story title. This will be what is displayed on the site as to what your story is called.

Your name should already be next to the Author line.

Next, add a description to your story. This is a short summary of what the viewers can expect from your story. Don't spoil the whole story for the reader, just a brief throwdown of the story.

Next, choose whether your story is a poem, or just a good ol' fashioned story. This is place in the category of the same name.

The language for the site is english, as that was the only popdown I saw.

Next, choose the genre which best suits your story. Action based adventure, with a lot of violence and very fast packed fight scenes. Humoristic, something along the lines of your character making complete fools of themselves for comic relief. Tragedy, someone will die in your story, it's up your reader to find out how.

Since this is a Zelda related site, you'll need to choose whether you used only Zelda characters in your story, or you had them interact with a character you made up on your own free time.

Also, since this site is family oriented, you'll need to warn your viewers whether or not there is going to be a lot of swearing in your fic, or maybe some of your characters get into very sexual situations. Kids shouldn't be learning either of these from a Zelda website, so warn them as so.

The rating will tell your viewer the same thing. Just like a movie, each rating tells a little something about the fic they are to read.

-Everybody: The situations are tame for everyone to enjoy.
-Teen: There are some situations that might get to graphic for the reader to enjoy. You probably should be 13 or older to view this fic.
-Mature: There are a lot of situations where the viewer might get a little queasy. You probably should be 17 or older to view this fic.

The creation date should be set to the present date. If you created this fic long before today, then you can change the date to represent that. Otherwise, today's date should suffice.

The last thing on the page is whether or not your story is complete. If you plan on adding chapters to your story, then you shouldn't click this option.

Now that people know of your story, click Submit. The next page will tell you to go back, where now you can add chapters to your story.

Once back, you'll be in your control panel, viewing the stories you have created. If you aren't there, you can go to this page again and click Control Panel to view your control panel. Once there, find the story to which you want to add some chapters, and click the Add Chapter button.

You'll be on a page similar to the one where you gave a brief description of your story. These are the things you'll need to tell us about your chapter:

Chapter number. If you are just starting, then the first chapter you add is "1". This is the beginning of your story. If you're story is only 1 chapter long, you will still need to put "1".

Chapter title. Does your story chapters have titles? If so, type that in the space provided. If not, just leave it blank, or right "Chapter 1" for easy access.

Summary. This is a brief description of what readers can expect from this chapter alone. Usually, you would state things like what characters will your main character meet. What kind of plot progression will we see, while not spoiling the whole story.

Updated on. This should be today's date.

Upload chapter file. This is the file that will correspond with the chapter you are submitting. Text files, like those saved in notepad, would be ideal for posting on this site. Nothing fancy like Microsoft Word or the like will be needed. You don't need to add that to this, it's just a simple story. To add your file, click browse, and then search your computer for the file that you will be uploading. Click ok.

Once you are done with your chapter, click save.

Your story is now floating around ZU for everyone to see.

Okay, I uploaded my file, but it said I attempted to upload a disallowed file! :mad: What should I do?

I do believe that the file needs to be in .txt format... I do believe that most Fan Fic sites only allow that format...

Anyone, correct me if i'm wrong. But, I would stick to converting to .txt then uploading.

How do we delete our own FanFics?

EDIT: I PMed Lozzie about my question, and he said that you need to ask like a mod or member of staff to delete. Just so everyone knows.

I uploaded my and a friend's fanfiction. But now the text after it was uploaded is all horrible and you can hardly read it, can someone delete it and tell me how to upload it without it doing that?

I deleted the chapter for you. Not sure what's wrong with it, and I'm not gonna investigate it further, because I will be redoing the fan fic system soon, since this doesn't work too well.

Just so everyone knows, if the FanFic system won't work for you, an alternative is to post your story in the Art and Writing section of the forums. That's what I did with Untold Legends.

:mad: Okay, I'm registered now, and on the old ZU I could access adding my own story to fan-fic before, but now whenever I log in and then go to fan-fic and press "add story" I get this "not authorized" message. I'm very displeased to put it lightly. This might have something to do with me owning a Macintosh computer but I'm not sure.

Somebody please help me before I break, maim, and otherwise demolish my stinking computer!!!

The current Mambo server doesn't have a site login. Lars has is eyes on a new version that allows the site login, so be patient.

patience isn't really one of my strong points, but hey, I can wait.....I don't have any idea what a Mambo server is but (I guess :embrsd: ) that a new one will be great!!

hey um... not sure if i'm sposed to be posting this here, but i didn't know where else to put it! >.> latley whenever i try to add fanart to the gallery (the zu site gallery, not the forums), it gives me an error when i try to upload. something like, "cannot upload to user /56879/". does anyone know what this means and am i the only one having the problem?
