Lars, I tip my hat to thee

I have seen some of the comments made after you put new news on the Main Page, and I tip my hat to you, just because a whole bunch of those posts have butched the English Language beyond all compare, yet you still let them post comments. For that, I admire you.

Uh... Is that... sarcasm?

...

I consider it bothersome that people post like that, but it is a very difficult task moderating those. I usually only get to it once a day.

Re: Lars, I tip my hat to thee

What i'm saying, is that I don't know how you people can tolerate posts like that. I'm a a super-mod on a different forum, and if I see posts like I do in the comments that people make about Lars's news, i'd freak out. I can't stand the fact that people think that talking like a moron on the net makes them cool, or just because they can, they think it's ok.

Re: Lars, I tip my hat to thee

Well, the comments generally aren't moderated as much (we have our hands full with the forums, for the most part), but I'll make some time each day to take care of that stuff. Comments spam has always been an issue, unfortunately, due to the nature of the system.

EDIT: I went through the recent news posts and got rid of some of the more idiotic messages. Things should look cleaner now.

Re: Lars, I tip my hat to thee

Sear has access to comments and not me? Blasphamy! =O...

Anyways, I remember a while back I talked to KK and made him sift through the comments because they were just so awful. Some comments didn't even have text, and some were just "uhame ok thanx....".

The people who can go through comments: Just watch them as they appear. The don't come too often unless it is some breaking news, so they shouldn't be incredibly hard to keep track of unless it's news like the trailer or the April fools joke thing.

"Made me"? Hey, now. I do it on a daily basis, I just hadn't done it that day. ...Or the day before.

And blasphemy nothing. He > j00!

And yes, actually, it is hard to follow, because the comments system pools ALL the comments into one list when I go to delete.

Re: Lars, I tip my hat to thee

GC, why would you have access to the comments? Go write some walkthroughs and bring me my coffee.

Oh, and I deleted over 350 comments last night. Some good ones may have been caught in the crossfire, but I tried to get rid of the really short ones, stupid ones, ones with bad grammar, ones with a disgusting number of smilies, or ones with no text at all. I don't find it hard to follow myself - just use the same technique you do while looking for spam on the forums. Generally, that means looking primarily for short messages and those with lots of stupid traits, such as bad grammar and smilies.

Not everyone can make a post with good grammar and spelling. It would seem unfair, to an extent.

<3. Thanks for doing that. Maybe now I won't have to go dip my eyes in Chlorine after reading those comments

Don't even try to pull that. Everyone can spell properly. If you can't, the try using MICROSOFT WORD to correct your errors.

I'll try and pull anything I want. Yes, everyone can spell properly. Your point? I'm hoping you weren't trying to say everyone must spell properly. Some people just aren't that good. And the Microsoft Word suggestion; I doubt it. I doubt newcomers will do that. They don't even notice their errors.

Well, if they took like 10 seconds of their time to read over what they just typed, it wouldn't be so bad. It isn't like 10 seconds will kill you.

Re: Lars, I tip my hat to thee

I agree that some of the comments are horrendous but you have to take into consideration that the majority of ZU visitors are young kids .. not late-teen/older specimens like ourselves. I wouldn't get tOO picky with their spelling if it was only slight errors. If you were to dip your eyes into chlorine (although I propose HCL for extreme cases ~__^ ) every time a wee kid made a spelling mistake, it's not worth going on the net at all :p

Well, you see, the newbies who do that type of wrong spelling will never in a million years care to check over there work. In other words, even if a spell checker was installed, and we forced them to type on Word... well, that doesn't mean they care to run the spell checkers in the programs. They will probably post as is.

An interesting thought would be a spell checker that checks the post before it actually posts, and corrects whatever it can automatically.

Hey GC, that's a good idea. But wouldn't that take forever to make? Lol maybe you should email the vB guys and suggest that.

Re: Lars, I tip my hat to thee

The comments system is not a part of vB, it is a hack for Mambo. I could see about adding a spell checker, but overall, I don't think people would heed it.
