I hate to bring it up, but...

I've been noticing other members recently who've been asking for names already taken by old, inactive users. They've been successful. Back in December, when I asked for the same thing, I was denied.

Here's the thread for your viewing pleasure.

The username I wanted was Joe, but the name currently belongs to someone who hasn't posted and has never logged in once. My current username looks similar, but the "o" is not an alphanumeric character. For some reason, my computer doesn't always remember my name, so I have to dig out the old character map almost every time I want to log in.

It's really annoying.

Really, I'm not asking for much; just a simple change to make logging in easier for me.

Either your policies have changed since December, or you play favorites.

Jewson doesn't allow it because "they might log in again even if they never logged in once, and giving their names to active users is for chumps!!!11!"

Your best bet is to ask Cody.

Reading the first post completely really helps.

Times change, and so do the rules (sometimes). When it comes down to it, it really just all depends on the mod.

...and the day of the week, and the weather, and whether said mod is on their period or not, and Jupiter's position in the night sky.

Obvious stuff like that. These rules should be standardized. Just give a disclaimer when you sign up that if your account has no posts after a year your account is ripe for deletion. It's not fair to let active members suffer.

Huh, that's funny. I never remember it being policy to outright deny requests like that.

The Official Policy, last I checked (when I made it and enforced it) was that an active user could request the name of an inactive user when:

• The inactive user has not logged in for more than 18 months / 4 months with no email validation
• The inactive user has no more than 5 posts
• The active user hasn't made such a request before

Simple, effective.

You still haven't read the post completely. He said he has to open the Windows character map every time he wants to log in. The fact that he has to do that just so a member who has never logged in can keep his name is unacceptable.

I know, I know. And I did read it...
At least it looks like it for the time being, until he gets it changed.

Have you went directly to Cody about it yet?

So I tried logging in today, and I noticed I couldn't log in. When that happened, I smiled. I owe you one, Cody. Thanks. :0)

Cody and Jason should have a gladiator battle to claim true leadership of the ZU populace.

I don't think Jason could bare to part with the revenue though. :/
