why not add the YouTube embedded code

honestly, why not add the code/hack to allow videos to be embedded in posts, instead of posting a links to youtube videos.

that way, members stay on the forum, and can watch the video, while still reading posts on the forum ...

vB has this code; as i've been on many vB forums that use this

here's an example on how the code is displayed for members, just like quotes and spoiler ...

thanx

There would be so many problems with that, it won't even be funny.

NO NO NO NO NO

Please... no. I mean, if we let members dump actual videos into the thread, it'll probably kill everyone's computer. The amount of lag it'd probably make would be scary. And think of all those poor dial-up users and what it'd do to them.

Honestly, if you wanna watch the video and keep the forums up, just open a new internet window.

I vote no. Of if for some odd reason it does get put in, I vote for an option that'll turn it off.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

I doubt most people would have a problem with the videos physically lagging their computers, but I vote no just because it would be annoying.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

Yeah, wouldn't that kill the computers with slower loading times? Even if it's just one. I don't really know, though. A counter to that would be to make threads specifically with the purpose of embedding YouTube vids, which wouldn't be a good idea at all. I see spam potential with this idea as well, but I suppose that's another topic. Actually, for me, in forum sites, all links I click on are automatically opened in another tab. What's wrong with just opening a youtube link in another window or tab? :/

I don't know, this just seemed like a message board. If a video needs to be seen, then link to it. Right?

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

The YouTube embedding would not cause higher load times. Not any more than an image does. It displays something and waits for you to click "Play."

However, I see no point in adding that code. You can click a link to YouTube just as easily.

I'm not sure about this. It would be more convenient, but what if someone posted an inappropriate video? Like... 'two girls one cup'...
I don't want that to be in any of my favorite threads. :/

2 Girls 1 Cup is not on Youtube.

Uh, this could be useful in Entertainment and General Gaming, but outside of those sections, I'd say no.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

^ Not only YouTube videos can be embedded. Other video formats can be embedded as well.

I vote no. As everyone says, it's laggy, slow loading time, a pain in the ass for dial-up users. Besides, whenever I open a link it automatically opens in another tab.

Downloading Firefox is much easier.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

No YouTube embeddedment.

Not only will it annoy me to see a big box that's pretty much screaming out "Click me now!", but there's the off chance that a member'll take advantage of that given ability and I'll start seeing little video links in every single post. Then I'll really get annoyed.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

YouTube embeds do introduce higher load times. It depends on the machine and the number of embeds on a page. The YouTube thread on my forum brings my laptop to a crawl and slows my desktop down a few seconds.

Not really, Nintendo Hub does it and we've never had a problem with it.

I think its a good idea and a really easy add.

Yes, because the addition of social groups, the completely changed skin, and the visitor messages ability are old hat.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

The perfect balance between having YouTube code, and keeping low-bandwidth users in mind, would be to add a function for users to disable video embeds. After all, it's already done with sigs, avatars and images:

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

I imagine that would be a yes; turning off images turns off images in both posts AND sigs.

Though the size of YouTube videos would be well over the size of sig-limits anyways.

Imagine all the possible porn and obvious Rickrolls.
Plus it would lag loads for some of us.

Re: why not add the YouTube embedded code

There is no porn on youtube and rickrolls would be...well, yeah, if you fall for a embed rickroll then there's most likely a problem here with the person who fell for it not the site.
