Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

Heaven forbid I open this up... but I'm interested in hearing what clan member think about who has access to their clans. This is a small issue that has come up, but I don't want anybody else to get flamed for asking the question or bringing it out into the open.

So here it is.

Thoughts?

(And don't post if you're not in a clan. Dude.)

Site Staff, like Rew, are awesome and should be allowed into the Clan areas. (As long as they continue to follow the rules, of course.) They help make the site be the best it can be, and so, are rewarded.

Clans have mods. If they don't want non-clan members posting, then they should make that a rule and enforce it.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

It's just the clan area, who honestly cares? Most clans are pretty much the same, anyway. Thread-wise, that is. My real concern actually lies with the whole purpose of the clans and not who actually has access to them.

I mean, it's just about as logical as **** that actual staff (excluding site staff, content managers, etc) constantly have access to every clan subforum.

That's precisely the question that's being asked here: Should site staff and other non-clan mods have access to all three clans? Currently we do. Should that be the case? That's what's being debated here.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

I honestly don't mind it that much. People who have access to other clans outside their own were mature enough to be granted moderation/site staff powers, thus are mature enough for other clans.

Clan access really isn't all that big of a deal, when they start moderating the clans at a Site Staff level, I'll be irked.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

There's normal members who are in more than one clan (giving them access to both), so why can't site staff access all of the clans? I see no problem with it.

You're not a part of this discussion.

That's because I've already been thrown out by Scott twice, while Jason actually gave me access to them initially.

Hell, I've been in Farore and Nayru and they're both the bloody same.

The PEOPLE in the clans are not the same; and they may have a preference.

Why not? Why should any mod or administrater be restricted from any threads? That's dumb. Unless of course it's a Farore only thread and a Din mod posts. It's just common sense.

I think Dr. Fish may be right. Maybe we should just let the clan mods decide for their clan (with input from their members) on what is allowed.

It's not really an issue of access, but an issue of posting. And the clan mods can take care of that by modding with their own rules.

Oh, I'm not saying yes or no either.

I was just presenting the question. (And I'm waiting to see more input before I actually do put forth my own opinion on the matter, for what it's worth.)

Perhaps according to your interpretation, not to mine. Besides, what do you mean by "preference"? They don't get to choose in which clan they go.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

I'd go even further in access. I've always thought we should be able to see into other clans, just not post. I don't actually see the points in clans anyway. They rarely, if ever, hold decent competitions to encourage the purpose of separate clans. Plus, the clan test eliminates being able to choose your clan, and therefore, community. I've always thought one big super-clan would be best.

1) you said that the clans are the same. I'm saying that actually, the people in the clans are not the same. Each clan has a different group of people assigned to it.

2) the people that have been assigned to a clan may feel that people who have not been assigned to that clan shouldn't post there.

Yah?

That's funny. I don't remember doing that. Also, it's an interesting reversal from the usual trend of such things. (Me being the one who generally says 'okay, sure.')

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

Thanks Jehanne for pointing this out to us.

Myself and Jodd feel the same regarding clan access. Jodd (or myself) was going to post the same sort of thread tomorrow morning. However, beaten to the mark I shall post what was going to be our first post.

Quote:
This is an issue that's been raised in the Din forums recently.
Why do Site Staff and all forums mods have access to all clan forums? It's understandable that Super Mods, Clan Mods and Global Moderators should be able to see throughout the forums, but with every second member and their three-legged goat being promoted to mod, or site staff, or thingamajig-admin, there really isn't any point having clans made exclusive anymore.

Site Staff really have no need to have access to clans outside their own. And the overwhelming majority of them only use that superfluous ability to post "oh hey look what i can do". Mods of other unrelated forums are the same, not really needing access to clan boards to do their job.

When I first joined Din, the fact that moderators could even see the other clan boards was practically unknown (Lioness accidentally let a few of us in on the secret one day). But now, a decent percentage of the posters in Din at least aren't even from Din.

Also, didn't we used to have rules pertaining to account/password sharing? I was under the impression it was "one member per account and one account per member". Now, along with "Site Staff" and any kind of moderator, there also regular members just sharing accounts to see into other clans.

So, come on. If we're now enforcing the content of posts in regards to censorship, can't we
a) also enforce the rules pertaining to account sharing and
b) re-introduce some exclusivity to the clan forums.

So you are saying that because normal members have 'swapped' clans that site staff (who are NOT moderators) should have access to all three clan forums?

If I have misinterpreted your statement and you know of members that have access to BOTH (rather that have swapped) clans, please let me know.

I know, I was just using your simplified explanation to base my statement off of.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

Not that I really care. But I would think that site staff should not have access to the all the clans. I hardly doubt that they could use their full access as an asset to the work they do for the main site.
