Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

I've added a poll based on the discussion so far. Please feel free to vote if you like, or wait until later; this is for informational purposes only. Furthermore, note that your vote will be visible.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

Yikes.

The disadvantage of the allowing the moderators and members choose who they want in the clan.... it will become a popularity contest and if a member was 'voted' away - that could cause some immense drama. And we all know we need more of that.

Should I remove the poll?

I only added it because I thought it would be an easy way to summarize people's positions on the issue. But I can take it down if you think that it's a problem.

Up to you Jehanne, I don't think it really important - the poll I mean.

I think what Jehanne was getting was to leave it up to the clan mods to decide if non-clan staff should have access to that particular clan--not to pick and choose which staff. In other words, the mods of a clan would decide it all-or-nothing, but it would be on a clan-to-clan basis.

I think the poll should stay. My suggestion is winning!

They wouldn't pick and choose who could post on a member-by-member basis. They would likely just make a rule like "If you're not in the the clan, then don't post like you are. Dropping in to say something every once in a while is fine, but if you start posting more often, then perhaps it's time that you transfer."

EDIT: Dammit, Rew. Your quick fingers have deftly outmaneuvered mine.

Oh that's what she meant? I thought...

Well, I closed the poll anyway. The modteam+Jason+admin+webmasters can talk about it elsewhere after reading through the comments that folks have made. The comments are more important than the numbers.

... doesn't Dr. Fish's team always win?

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

Zarah's thoughts:

Let the CLAN MODS do what the majority of their members want (not just 2 or 3 people whining and complaing about it).

In Nayru, we love the invaders, to an extent. It gets annoying when the staff/mods come in and SPAM the place up. There's a big difference between an invader coming in and actually taking part of the conversation, and one coming in going ZOMG HAI GUIZ NEW BANNER LULZ and pissing the others off. The local mod can just delete that post.

There's also the option where you can just IGNORE the posts. It's not like ZOMG NON CLAN MEMBER IN HERE!!! WE MUST KILL AND DESTROY IMMEDIATLY!!! WE HATE ALL NON CLAN MEMBERS!!! Because you really do sound like that :/

(also, what about instead of having the poll here where non-clan members can post, why not take it to all three clans and ask them in their own community? and perhaps make the poll non-public as well? )

I think that only the Moderators of the clan should be able to go into the clan, not even site staff should be able to visit other clans.

Just while we're here -- you had a tantrum and demanded to be removed from Nayru. Then you had a whinefest that lasted about 14months to get you into Farore, which you left when you were banned.

I don't think we threw you out of anywhere, stop it with your negative Khama.

I'll let them enforce the rules, even if it's not their clan.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

Ok, well I can understand some people in the clans getting annoyed at a seeming influx of mods invading... but when I became a mod, I poked my head in the clans at first just because. but now I rarely go in the clans (except Nayru, of course)

I think maybe the latest rather large wave of new mods may be exacerbating the annoyance, since they're all likely poking around in the new places they can access.

I think that any mod going into a different clan should take care to be thoughtful and polite, and post meaningfully. We don't need a bunch of "OMG INVASION RRRAAARRGH!" stuff.

But I also think that if clan members ask a non-clannie to leave, they should honor that wish.

that's my opinion.

THIS POST CHANGED MY ****ING OPINION

As much as I love Rew posting in Nayru, this is an extremely good point.

By the way please pay attention to the quote

the word "hardly" in that quote actually makes it sort f a double-negative/weird grammatical thing...

he means "there's nothing about accessing all the clans that could help what they do on the main site"

but the meaning of that quote pretty much says the opposite...?

I had to read it several times

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

This is my opinion:

Staff should be given access to all clans. Why? Because if an issue comes up among the staff members, then other staffies can go and check things out, and give a rightful opinion.

Once in awhile, it's cute fun to poke in and say "hi".... but to outright abuse powers to torment and bug other clans? That's not right, and shouldn't be done.

Again, I consider it abuse of powers.

Look.
Dabble.
But don't abuse.

When speaking about this, I mean the forum staff. I do not think it's fair to have site staff/non moderators have access.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

I am also referring to site staff. I do however think that forum mods, while having access to all clans, shouldn't post in the other clans unless absolutely necessary. There is a thread in farore in which a Din mod posted which frankly I thought ruined the fun of the thread completely.

You bring up an excellent point.

Clans are FUN. Or supposed to be anyway. It's being in a clan... a team... a group.... a kinship that bonds members together. It's just not the same when you see someone else actively posting in a clan forum that is not their own. It seems to take some of the clan "essence" away.

Re: Heaven Forbid! (clan access)

it also promotes an elitism within the moderator ranks which further separates them from normal members. Not that the elitism didn't exist before, but that's an entirely different gripe I have.

While I'm at it, I'm not the only person here who doesn't see why site staff are on the forum leaders page and online staff list. Since they can't help people with forum related problems, they clutter up the staff list. (I think the online staff list should be abolished entirely anyway).
