Three months per username change rule

Why isn't this ever enforced?

I've been wondering about this as well. I have seen people get their name changed, and then get it changed again in less than a week. Such wonderful enforcement of the rules.

Hopefully a mod can explain this.

Because it's a fairly useless rule. The only reasons I can think of that support the existance of this rule are A: To stop the mods from constantly having to change usernames; and B: To stop people from avoiding punishment (repeated or otherwise) through name changes (although this point is fairly unlikely).

Really, why shouldn't people be allowed to change their username more? If somebody wants to change their username for a short amount of time to celebrate something, etc, they're not going to want to have to keep that name for three months.

Then they shouldn't change their name. A lot of the time, it's all you have to identify people by on the forum.

Name changes? Feh, just stick with it for "3 months", because if you do it constantly, no one is going to rememebr who that person is.

Yah, I noticed the rule wasn't enforced much.

I guess it gets sorta confusing when people change their names a lot, but, honestly, it doesn't both me at all.

Eh, if the rules wasn't there I'd've gotten another name change again... I hate my username. D: I never should've changed it.

i didnt know you could change your name, but i dont see anything wrong with it, so long as you dont pick a name someone else has already of course.

Eh, if it's simply changing your name, then changing your name back when you realize you liked your old name better, and you don't change your name after that for a good long while, then I find it acceptable. If it's just a minor modification, I'm okay with it as well.

Now, if we're talking about changing your name to something completely different every few weeks, it becomes a different story. That is just plain bloody annoying, and if it were up to me that kind of stuff wouldn't happen.

A person's name online and on the forum is practically the only handle we have of recognising them - moreso if the person in question regularly changes their avatar and signature.

It is extREMELY annoying and frustrating when members such as Alucard change their names from month to month - NONE of us, I would bet, have such fantastically organised computers of memories and minds so as to INSTANTLY know that such-and-such person has just had their 18th name change complete with av and sig change. Unfortunately there is no instant feed to our minds to update us automatically.There are MANY active members in the community and it won't do to allow this confusion to continue.

Especially when they don't even leave a "used to be ------- " thing in their sig.

I say mods need to reinforce this rule harshly, only leaving leeway for things like - someone changing their name and finding that they simply are not fitting with it and changing back. Otherwise, stop having no respect for everyone around and consistently and constantly masking your identity.

Three months is way too liberal. Twelve years is a much better length of time.

Ah but see, kind sir, things like jokes and such I think should be part of the leeway provided- because it's a wee temporary thing the community is repeatedly informed of till the person reverts back to their old nick. Everyone was aware that Asci's temporary nick change at the time was a joke :p

I don't mind people changing their nickname to something they think genuinely suits them more, finding that it simply DOESn;t, then changing back. It's just the nickname ---1month---> completely different nickname (and visual whatsits) ----1month---> completely different entirely unrelated nick---1month--->Complete new visual identity/name etc etc

Asia's whining over people changing their usernames is hilarious to me because she was the person I thought of when it was mentioned that some people change their name multiple times in a week.

In 4 years and a half, and after a joke namechange by Scott from my nick to LadyGazalazabazado, from which I then changed back after the joke was done, I have only changed my name once, and that was to "Almalika Asia" before returning to my original nick.

I have no problem with people trying out a nick, find it doesn;t suit them,then returning to a nick they had before.
But constant changes to completely new nicknames every other month is what;s intolerable
