Why not Currency?

You know. Whenever you post, you get a tiny bit of rupees added. Save up enough, and there could be a shop that allows you to buy glowing usernames or plushies of moderators or other useless items.

A little suggestion I thought of, after seeing other successful forums with this feature.

Re: Why not Currency?

Well... honestly, I don't like the idea. I mean, if the items you buy with your rupees are useless, then why buy them? I really don't see a point to it.

Re: Why not Currency?

Because alot of people would post-whore just for rupees and it woud only make the moderaors job more difficult thanit already is. Not to mention, complications with the shop itself. Like neding someone to run the shop.

Re: Why not Currency?

Bad idea. As soon as you give people a reason to post more all hell breaks loose. Heck, people used to spam to 1 000 posts to get a custom title, and that is a rather small honour. That's why nothing on the forums requires more then a nominal number of posts now, so that we don't get people spamming so that they can earn them.

As soon as you add a constant reward for posting, without reservation, then you'll find that the number of spammy posts goes up. Now, I know that we display one's post count, but fewer people spam to raise that then would spam for any kind of currency.

For an example of just how bad the money system is, go to gaia-online, it is nothing but endless pages of drivel because the mods there can't/won't keep up and the people want money.

Re: Why not Currency?

People would spam just to get rupees, and then the mods would have a harder time, and of course, I doubt any of us would like a forum filled with spam.

Re: Why not Currency?

There is no reward for posts at ZU. If there was, they would become valuable, and if something valuable can be obtained through 8 seconds of typing, then it's pretty much asking people to spam-whore-rape the forums.

I can honestly say that a currency system will likely never take effect here on ZU, and GDwarf gave the prime reasons why.

Thus, the question has been answered. Why not Currency? Gaia. That's why.

Re: Why not Currency?

To be fair, we could simply combat spam with an increased forum presence... but damn, I don't want to sit around for hours cleaning up your mess.
