Name Change Mod

Some people wait more than 4-5 days to change their name on the Name Change Thread. I once waited 6 days and I cancelled my request months ago! This thing is good because people have the time to think if they really want their name changed but after 1-2 days, it gets annoying. Don’t worry, I don’t have any problem. You see, I got the name change I wanted, but I am sad about the other members that are waiting right now...

With respect to the ZU Mods and Admins,
Sotiris

Re: Name Change Mod

I don't think there should be a wait period at all. If you need time to think about it, you have all the time in the world to do so before you make a request.

Well, you have to understand that the mods have other things to tend to before sifting through countless name changes. I know, I know. Damn them for having lives. =]

Re: Name Change Mod

Bah, if it was up to me, I'd do away with this namechange thread altogether! or at least, make it alot more difficult to have a name change.
It's extREMEly annoying when members are on their 3rd, 4th and 5th nicknames. It's enough work to remember the hundreds of users who post everyday and assigning personalities to them without them going and changing completely to something we have to get used to all over again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against someone getting a name change after outgrowing the first that they've had for a while, but there are times when it gets intolerably ridiculous. With every new fad, some members change again and again. Grr!
[/rant]

Right .. now that is out the way, I believe it is easier for mods to wait until there are a sufficient number of requests to go through the whole adminny process of name changing. A bit like waiting till you've had a good amount of dirty clothes before you put them in the washing machine.
Secondly, it's that tenny tiny thing called " real life" =)
Believe it or not, it's a lot of hard work to keep up with a constantly updating and evolving forum for a mod, let alone the extra name stuff. Besides, the name changes aren't really URGent per se. Whoever wants a name change has managed to survive just fine for at least a month with the first.

The key?
Patience m'dears, patience.

Of course... if you've been around and people stop calling you by your actual ZU Screen Name, and by a nickname... I'd say it's quite common and acceptable that, that member change his name to his nick, if he/she does so please.

I mean I didn't do that <_< >_>
Heh, my original name was quite lame, despite my using it for a long 2+ years.

I totally agree, especially if they go back and forth between nicknames. I say make the period 3 months and a minium of 500 posts.

Edit: I can be a name change mod, I promise that after 2 weeks nobody will dare to change their names more than twice or will change it to something like Link4wo89u40893448y532852398yr53

Yeah, I thought about changing to DD myself, but it was too short (I thought) so I made it Cody instead.

It would actually somewhat surprise me if you or the lot of ZU could remember my old name, simply because it was hardy used from what I remember.

But yeah... the best way to go about getting a nickname, is to stick with your regular name. Change your name once you've been around for about 2 years or so.

I remember Link Messiah, but are you saying there was a username before that?

Y'know... I bet some people wouldn't mind.

I have had this username for a loong time... I have always thought about changing it, because I don't really like numbers in SNs, despite the fact that mine actually has meaning. Maybe I will eventually... Just be Pyro. That's what people call me now, despite the fact that my name is Drew (and I'm not a pyromaniac). There's a link in my sig for those who care (or just want to spam/flame my explanation).

Goten.

Personally, I couldn't have done the 'use nickname as actual,' since both things I was called were the actual member names of others: KK & Kokiri.

Actually, I was thinking about changing the way we do name changes. I was considering totally removing that thread, and forcing people to figure out on their own how to get name changes: PM smods & admins. One namechange now and then is okay.... but there's just so much. If the thread weren't there, not nearly as many people would change their names, just because it's not there, and it's not obvious.

I will not add something to allow people to change their usernames whenever they please. That would be a total headache trying to decipher who's who....moreso than it is already.

Re: Name Change Mod

I think that thread was put there in the first place because admins were getting pounded with name change requests in their PM boxes. Now, with it out in the open, name changes are too much. Every two months, you change your name. I've had my name for 3 1/2 years now. I've found no use to change it. Really, you should think about one name you really want, and keep it. If you REALLY need it to change, then you can get it changed. It shouldn't change for every fad you get hooked into (that seems to be the #1 reason for changes)

Lies, Jimbo. You were LoZ5686. Of course, everyone called you "Lozzie," but that's entirely beside the point.

Re: Name Change Mod

A lot of people don't seem to have a username that goes with their identity. I've been "Fury Three" for as long as I can remember. I only recently had it shortened when it came to my attention that an unsettling amount of people can't distinguish between "Fury" and "Furry."

Ok, fine, it's true! *sobs* But when I asked, it was in the chat, and not on the forums. So I didn't clutter someones PM for it.

Re: Name Change Mod

LoZ5686, like in with numbers? Like in a noobie way?

That is just so bad!

Ok I just read
Quote:
Lozzie joined Zelda Universe on the forums in October 13, 2002 under the name loz5686. Very original name it was, as it was the abbreviation for Legend of Zelda and my birthdate, May 6, 1986.
The numbers stand for something so it isn't that bad!

Well Scot why don't you make it that people can do it themselves, but just make it really hard to do. Like really complicated, if it takes like 10 minutes for someone to change their names they will think twice about changing it for every interest flick they have.

P.S. Where is that promotion to Official Name Changer Mod or Y.O.U W.I.L.L N.E.V.E.R G.E.T Y.O.U.R N.A.M.E C.H.A.N.G.E.D for short?

P.P.S. Come up with a more original reply than N.O.T I.N Y.O.U.R L.I.F.E

Re: Name Change Mod

Unless Scott has the time and knowledge to create his own mod for vB that creates an hard-to-use name changing features (How would you do that, anyways?) I doubt we'll ever see it, and I rather think that's a good thing. I admit it, I've changed my name, but I had my reasons. However, I've been loking at some of the entries in the name change thread, and they startle me, people seem to like to change their name whenever the whim hits them, which is odd, your online name is your identity, I'm GDwarf everywhere now.

Anyways, I got off topic. It's very, very unlikely that Scott will ever impliment any such thing, and I'm rather glad about that. I also feel that removing the thread would be a good idea, but I'd give people some warning, so that they can decide on a more 'final' name then they have now, after all, most of them seem to like to use them to reference current events.

I agree. I think that in some cases there could be made exceptions. But generally, I say you're stuck with what you started with. Me? I like my name! I use it in every game I play (which originated from games where you are stuck with 3 letters), and I plan on keeping it the way it is. I put thought into my username (although not too much, as I use it often), and I won't ever say "I'm boooored of it," or "I think I liked my old name," etc.

I think the thread is unnecessary. It sure confuses me when someone changes their name, and then I have to figure out who they were. People in real life don't change their names every month, why should a forum be any different?
