How do I put an image in my signature and avatar?

I'm trying to put a GIF file for my avatar. It's the right size and everything. But when I try to use it, it says "Invalid File".

WHAT THE HECK?? Ok, so I found a good avatar and saved it to my comp. I then went down to the custom avatar thing here and uploaded it from my document things. It doesn't show when I post. I am sooo mad..


EDIT: I even uploaded to photobucket, got the url then put in in the custom avatar thing. IT STILL DOESN'T WORK! It shows up on the user cp where it says "Your current avatar" but not in my posts. It is currently just the Hylian Seal, but I want another one.

This vague avy keeps re-appearing every time I try to upload an image from my own computer, it won't stop. I've tried many images...
I could use some help here...

All of the problems that you guys with fairly common names are, well, problems with the site itself.

If you want me to try and fix it, it'll involve either changing your name or the name of another person. :O

For example, with Himura Kenshin, his avatar ended up getting mixed up with the one owned by a user named Himura_Kenshin, so I had to delete the latter to fix things. :3

My sig pic has too many pixels. What's the easiest way to resize it?

What do you mean? The height and width are okay... and it doesn't appear to be a huge file.

Really? It was 500 x 133, so earlier this morning I noticed the image was gone, replaced by a sig ninja note saying it had to be 400 x 100 max. So I went in and resized it (using IrfanView), and replaced it on my Photobucket album. But--on my computer at least--it still registers as 500 x 133, even though I resized it to 400 x 106 (which technically is still 6 pixels too big, but I can resize it further if need be). So on other people's computers, is it coming up as the 400 or 500 pixel size?

I would have to go check the Newbie's Guide to be sure, I but I thought that the size limits were 400 x 150. If I'm wrong, I will certainly smack myself.

I'm not sure what's going on with your image. You tried refreshing your browser?

Ah, now it's registering the correct size! (Yeah, sometimes Photobucket can have a lag, now that I recall.) And... *checks Newbie's Guide* ...400 by 150 is indeed the correct max size, so everything's good here on my end now! Thank you.

Um, I keep getting my sig pic, putting it in over and over, and it keeps turning out far too small, what should I do?

All along I thought the maximum sig size was 400 x 150, has it changed? Lady Knives made me this wonderful sig - that measures 364 x 150, and 79.6 KB - and every time I upload it or enter the URL it gets resized (see signature). In my control panel, it says the maximum size I can upload is 400 x 100. Did I break something, or has it been like this all along?





EDIT: Not that anyone was going to help me, but this issue has been resolved. PROTIP: Use the IMG tags instead of the SIGPIC tags.

Is there any possible way to request a banner for a social group to use, since as far as I'm aware the Synthesis of Imagery section is more centred around sigs.

Actually, most of the shops in SoI will take banner requests.

ok so I'm trying to go back to my old sig and avy, and for some reason, when I copy the url into my avy, it tells me the remote file is too large.... what does that mean and how do I correct it? I want mt steely dan set!

Either it weights too much, or the pixel limit is exceeded.
Though, it's strange if you already had that before and it worked.
Did you modify your stuff or what?
I don't think any rules were changed since last time you had those.


Oh, and if that image in your post is your avy, then it's not the exceeding pixel limit.

There's only one thing wrong with that picture that I can find, and that's that it's 0.42KB too big. A trivial amount I know, but the restrictions do specify no more than 25KB... :/
