[Suggestion] Gender: Undecided

I do not wish for my profile to show my gender. At the same time, however, I'm certainly not undecided about my gender. To me, it would be more appropriate to have just two gender options, with the first option in the drop-down menu being "choose one". Alternatively, "undecided" could be changed to "undisclosed" or "N/A"

Thoughts?

Eh, I always thought of it as meaning 'hidden' rather than *actually* being undecided, especially as how there's just nothing next to a username rather than an 'undecided' sign on the actual forum. I don't really think it matters if it's changed. I would think that the majority of the people on here assume their gender is hidden rather than they're undecided when they see it.

The word "undecided" is just so awkward for gender. It's sounds like people need to pick one at some point.

Actually, there are some people who identify as being neither male or female. I'd say that the following should be the actual options for the gender field:

• Hidden (or something similar)
• Male
• Female
• Other

And, assuming that the options can't be changed within ZU, we should all go scream at vBulletin about how they're being stupid in at least three different ways with this one profile field.

I believe the issue is that what we use (to have the icons appear [which I don't even like in the first place]) is a plug-in. When we tried to have "unspecified" or anything else put in, rather than a gender symbol, everyone would have "_username_ is an unspecified" appear next to their username when they posted. It ended up looking clunky and horrible.

I do agree that it should be changed to reflect other genders, and "undecided" is a really dumb term. Unfortunately, as far as I'm aware we're stuck with it unless we were to get a code wizard who would have the time to go through and rewrite a bunch of code.

Just think of it as being undecided whether to show your gender or not.

Well after all, you did make this thread

I believe the issue was along the lines of the plug-in being fussy and adding genders/images wasn't the original intention, resulting in a breakage somewhere. I can't say for certain that we'd need a new plug-in or someone to edit the current one(or make one), since while I assume they're shareware or freeware, I'm not certain.

I do agree with the idea of adding "Other", but honestly I don't mind the way it is now. It seems unnecessary to me to try and fix this when it isn't really broken and would take up a lot of time. I doubt anyone is going to get offended or overly upset because of it, it just might make things a bit less "proper".

I guess what I'm saying is, that while I'd like this, it's a fair bit of work for something pretty insignificant, and I just feel there's probably something more important for us to do?

But as long as there is none of that visible gender sign next to my name, then I guess I'm all good with it right now. So I guess it doesn't really bug me.

That, and finding a plugin for each and every whim anyone has breaks things. We tried this before.
