[Suggestion] A more "light" version of the Temple skin

First I would like to say that I love the Temple skin, the horizontal posts and the background colors, and my congratulations to the creator(s) of it.

However I must say that it is the slowest skin to load, and for people like me that use handled devices(phone,3DS) or older Computers or have a slow internet comnection the loading time can be a bother...

Of course, we can change the skin but this is for those that want to enjoy the most well made and beutifull skin of the forums without needing to wait a considerable amount of time to be able to actually browse smothly.

My suggestion is to make a skin exactly like the Temple one, but change it to be more browser friendly, by putying less detail in the colors, change the top to a simple ZU forum, overall decrease the detail in the graphics, the user Control Panel could become more simple aswell.

These small changes could make browsing with this skin incredibly more confortable.

In a simple way:pick a skin like the white one, and change the color to the ones of the Temple skin and make the posts horizontal(with avatar, location ETC on top of the post)

I dont know how hard it could be but it sounds like a rather easy task.

Temple Skin is an overbloated image-ridden skin and I don't see a way it could be optimised. Temple Skin itself needs fixing before it needs a second version, especially as there are plenty of more efficient skins that ZU has to use alternatively

Yes but people should change skin because of their preferences not because one is to hard on the browser.

You could always use the other skins. I prefer blue myself because it's the least bright on my eyes and it still looks good in my opinion. If you want to change skins, go to "User CP" at the top of any ZU page, and then go to the quick start section on your left and click "Edit Your Details". Next, go to the "Settings and Options" section and click "Options". Near the very bottom is a part that asks what skin you would like to use. Try them all out, that is, if you don't already know how to change skins.

I think making another skins takes too much and money for those who run this forum. The majority of the forum is happy enough with the given skins.

Also, before this thread gets completely derailed...

There's a couple things you can do to decrease overhead:

In your User CP, if you look under Thread Display Options > Thread Display Options, you can enable or disable Signatures, Avatars, and/or Images that appear on the forum. Unchecking any one of these will cut down load times on slower devices.

You can also make sure that ZU is kept cached on your web browser.



There's a few reasons why we haven't really reworked the Temple the skin for so long. It's mainly due to the fact that our main skin guy - Derek - left. Poof. Gone. Obviously this sets you back a bit when you want to do anything relating to skins.

While that's a valid point, if someone's limited by their broadband/browser then refusing to solve the problem practically then it's their own fault.

I feel I should assure you that there is literally no chance of this happening in the next year, but more likely ever. Considering all the TempleSkinTalk, that's pretty clear to everyone now

Yes, of course it couldnt be done now, but I was just saying that this could be something to do when it is possible.

Whats with being new and using the temple skin?

Do you mean how the majority of newbs use the temple skin?

Normally newbs use it because it's the default skin and they don't care about using a different one, but after they become more involved in the community it dawns on them both that the skin gets a lot of hate and that it's faster to use a different skin. So they just swap over, whether for technical speed or peer pressure.
