Banner Ads

Just wondering, how much money does ZU make from its ads? I've never been inclined to click one, and I don't think many other people have.

They get clicked or viewed enough times to cover server costs, but not much more than that.

I could get into social commentary about how the economics of the internet rely too heavily on in your face advertising and ads in general that savvy users just ignore or block anyway (because if they want something they'll google for it anyway).... but I wont.

Also, I wouldn't use adblock on ZU. Jason will hate you forever.

No, I am not going to say I use adblock, either, because this is a public poll, and if I said that, I would get banned, because I am breaking the rules. So, no, I don't use an adblocker.

Looking at the votes, I can't actually tell whether Liah really uses adblock (or something similar) or not. Hrm.

Maybe... Maybe her "something similar" is Mike frantically covering the screen yelling "Don't look! There's an AD on the page!" (Dun dun dunnnnnnn)

I just looked through the rules and saw nothing about adblocker, where'd you get that idea? I'm curious. :3

I think a while ago Jason said he'd be banning/infracting people who used an adblock? That may be an exaggeration though, when Jason is involved stories tend to go that way :|

There's no rule about using adblocker. It just isn't very nice when you do use one. Of course, that's just a philosophy. There are agreements and disagreements.

If we really wanted to stop people from using adblock, we'd use something like this:
