Visible User CP Notifications

I am not too fond of going back and forth into my User CP to check for notifications. Could we have something that let you know when you had a subscribed thread that has been responded to and such?

Yes. I agree. I find it quite annoying.

I don't find it annoying at all--all you have to do is click a single button to get to the control panel where basically every update you could possibly want is visible. ???

But it gets annoying. I don't want to stop what I'm doing every 30 seconds to look at a thread I have subscribed too. I like to keep myself updated, I also think there could be a "NOtifications" Thing on the outside of the CP, whereas, you can do that with messages, but not have a seperate one for Subbed threads?

But that is not the problem we face. It is that we constantly look to see if someone has updated anything.

why not simply have another tab with the user CP open and check it every so often while doing whatever else on your usual tab

Because I have to refresh all the time, and besides, I wish there was an option to have some sort of notifications feed beside all the text. (I can see how that would work on the temple skin, but I'm not sure how they'd do it on skins that cover the screen.)

I get you now. This part ^ is a sensible request, if possible.

But I still don't see what's so annoying about just clicking on the CP to check. But that's just me, I get what you're saying and all. Or Keith's idea, that makes sense, too.

Such a thing is possible, yes.

But unfortunately it's not really a feasible thing to implement. It would cause a lot of extra server processing for one (though, Jason does pay for an absurd server, so...maybe...), plus, getting it all worked in (and looking good on all skins) would take some time. Time which I, at least, am not currently willing to spend.

Well, there is already such a thing for messages, so I don't see how it could cause too much server processing compared to what it is now.

Oh, I was thinking of something more complex than that... Silly me.

There's probably a plugin for that.

Well, I think that the creating of a section in the thing next to the username at the top makes sense.

I'd rather have a similar thing for Social Groups.

I'll do the math. 1/2 of a second to hit the second tab. 1/2 of a second to hit refresh. 1 second to load. 3.5 seconds to scroll through your CP. 1/2 of a second to hit the first tab. That comes to about 6 seconds (I've almost finished a game of minesweeper in that time, so trust me, its longer than you think). Now suppose you do that 4 times every time you're online. 24 seconds every time. If you are on every other day? 1 minute, 32 seconds a week. 6 minutes, 36 seconds per month. 1 hour, 18 minutes per year.
It could take several hours to find the fix, and several days to work out the bugs. Even if you were on ZU for a whole decade, it could still take much longer to find a fix and make it work properly. This is assuming that you stay consistent at that rate and get on at least every other day. History shows you are not really consistent with posting. Seems like a lot of work to me but that's just my two cents. I rarely check my subscribed threads though, so its not really an issue for me.

No e-mails for replies?
Maybe an option to change "unread PMs" to "unread topics".

There are some people who have it set that way though.

Relatedly, if you have it set that way, and have an email program which automatically notifies you whenever you have a new email, wouldn't that be essentially the same as what this thread is proposing?

Nah, no need to change anything except Social Group notifications.
