Technology Placement Sucks Ass

Move it back to the index.

I'm going to save a mod some time and I'll ask you why you think so.

Because it's become a woefully ignored subforum of the site's most popular section. I created a thread six hours ago and have only gotten 20 views and 0 responses, when the people viewing the GD section has almost always been above 15 every time I've noticed.

And if something as little used as the advertising section is going to be on the main page, I would think a section like technology should be as well.

The people who know what they're talking about and frequent the tech board know where it is and post in there regularly to solve everyone's issues. Just be a little more patient and not expect staff to move a forum because you didn't get a reply within a few hours on a holiday.
It was moved because it didn't get enough traffic to deserve it's own spot on the index. I haven't noticed much of any slowdown or post infrequency that differs much now as it did then.

Right, but the board isn't (or shouldn't) just be about troubleshooting people's problems. "Technology" is a wide ass net that covers dozens of subjects, and I feel that where it's placed disallows its potential to be filled as more than a place to ask people for help because X doesn't work.

I realize now that's how it sounded, but it's not simply because of this one instance. I've always contested the movement of the section, this just gave me an extra incentive to start a dialogue on it. Perhaps not the best way to go about it, though :/

How much traffic does Advertising get?

The Tech board is used however people see fit to do so within the category, and if you haven't noticed, it's mostly used for when people have problems and want a fix. Pure discussion threads are very disproportional to help threads, and don't last long. I'm not sure I remember if there was a little more discussion or not before it was moved, though.

Advertising gets new posts pretty much every day, as far as I've noticed, though, little discussion. Just pure ads from members. And what Cody said...

Advertising isn't there because it has an active community (it's probably the only board that doesn't, as the kind of people interested in posting their stuff there generally aren't interested in checking out anyone else's stuff) by the way - Advertising is there to stop advertising threads from being everywhere else. Thus, when it's on the index it successfully redirects countless newbies who signed up to promote their awesome invisionfree forum or whatever.

Don't have much of an opinion either way on the Technology board though.

Technology was used as "tech support" 95% of the time when it was on the index, too.

True, but there would be other types of threads occasionally... At least more than there seems to be now.

I've actually noticed more general tech discussion threads since the forum was moved.

I don't really mind either way.

I've been on forums where the subforums are directly accessible from the index. That might be a good compromise.

from the opinions of people I've spoken to, Advertising is there as a precaution to stop other forums getting spammed up with ads than it is for productivity. If it was hidden in a forum then it's would be much harder to achieve this purpose.

What's the point of them being subforums then?
Wasn't the purpose of moving less active areas like Tech around because the index was too cluttered?

They aren't fully displayed the way normal forums are. There's just a link to the subforum from the index, so you can go there directly. It would add practically no clutter.

On the forum I've seen it on, they appear as small links below the forum's description.

I find it doesn't seem to fit under General Chit-Chat.
That placement seems awkward. I don't care if it's a sub, but that seems like a weird spot to be.
And there isn't really another spot it could be a sub where it really makes sense either. For me, it works better as it's own forum.

But I don't really care that strongly about it.

I think Technology doesn't get enough traffic too, It usually takes a day or two before anyone's even responded to a question. It definitely needs more attention, and Technology does kinda seem like a better fit as a subforum under FSQ than GCC.

FSQ is about the site/forum. Technology is about all technology.

FSQ and Technology are both for people that need help asking questions. It makes more sense than GCC , anyway. Could it possibly be a sub-subforum within the ZU Help Forum?
