[Question] No friends?

So, I was going to check something on my user cp. I had my friends list at the side, as is normal forthe skin I use. I went over to miscalculaneous (apologies if I spelt it wrong) to see if I'd set myself any reminders. I hadn't. But I noticed at the side it said about contacts. It said I had no friends. This puzzles me. I haven't gone into enough detail, I know, so I'll go check so I can describe more accurately.

Ohyeah, something i just rememberd. Back on the main cp, on my online list of contacts, there is a box next to each person. I can tick it, but I don't unedrstand what it means. They only appeared recently.

Supposingly, you "tick" them to visit their userpage /"pop up" or PM them.
