[Suggestion] Pruning Inactive Members

Have any of you guys thought about deleting some of the users on here that register, but never use the account? I mean you have 55,000+ members and only 1,637 are active. I would think that deleting the inactive ones would clean up the site. Especially if it's someone who registered in 2005 and still hasn't used their account. I would think after 5-6 months of inactivity, the person should be deleted.

You have no clue how many people (including myself) have asked this. The answer is of course no. As much as many wish it, Jason (or Cody) doesn't like to get rid of old accounts.

Yeah. What if z3ldadood469 had to make another account if he ever changed his mind 12 years in the future?

This forum would look pretty small if it had only 1600 members. Not to mention the Active Members stat doesn't count the 25000 other ZUers who are inactive but have one or more posts.

Main reason: Admins have other things to do, and pruning members doesn't really matter.

Yeah, the admins have other things to do dealing with this site. Also why would they take time out of their day to make their site seem less impressive, doesn't make much sense.

Well, presumably the site would run smoother/faster. Whether it would actually do so is a question I couldn't answer.

hey, by the way... there is one registered Zelda, who registered in 2002, and has no posts.. what's that all about? if Connor gets to be link, why is there no Zelda?

^I demand that the username "Zelda" be reserved for an honorable active female member. This would mean depriving the 2002 user from his/her username, though.

Users who never posted in 7 years don't matter.

^Makes me think: The username Lloyd Irving was used by someone else before. My name got changed upon request. What exactly happens to the user with the original username Lloyd Irving?

Depending on who did it, the account either got deleted, or randomly renamed.

Wow... well If I didn't fancy my established name and identity, I'd ask, but bearing the name Zelda seems to warrant a particular dedication to the title...

what about if some one has dial up? would deleting those accounts make things faster for them?

No, not really. The unused accounts are surprisingly minuscule burdens.

Speed differences on the server side are not influenced by connection bandwidth.
