Re: How do you delete your account?
All you can do is wait for the admins to respond. They don't actually always delete accounts, except under certain circumstances.

Re: How do you delete your account?
Why have the account deleted? Why not just abandon it if you don't want to be here?
Abandoning it means that if you do eventually want to come back, you'll be able to do so easily. Alternatively, if you really do think you'll never want to be here again, you could just break the rules which have the punishment being a permaban.

Re: How do you delete your account?
The short answer to the question is: You don't.
The long(er) answer is: There is no purpose in doing so. |

Why pass up the chance? Of course, remember to be creative. Getting banned is an art.

Re: How do you delete your account?
We had this issue on another board. I can understand to a point why you don't want to have posts deleted where it would ruin the progression of old threads, but a) they are exactly that, old threads, or will be soon, and b) I think people should be allowed to retain control of the information they put up to read, including deleting it if they feel they want to.
Besides, do you have to remove the posts if you delete a user; can't you just have those posts labelled "deleted user"? Personally, I think people should have a big red "delete account" button on their profiles, so their account is theirs to do with as they wish. |

Re: How do you delete your account?
Deleting an account doesn't remove posts. People are welcome to delete their old posts all they wish.

You don't need one.

Re: How do you delete your account?
You can't really decide that for people. It's their account, and if they want to remove it they shouldn't have to work through admins to do so. What if, I don't know, they're spending too much time on ZU and want to remove that temptation, or they accidentally created two accounts, or just didn't want another forum account kicking around cyberspace. They should have control over their own online data.

Re: How do you delete your account?
There is no personally identifying data on a ZU account, unless you do something really dumb. All one needs to do is walk away.

Don't deleted accounts come up as "Guests?"

Re: How do you delete your account?
So? Nothing I said related to personal data.
I'm not trying to start an argument here, but there's no reason not to give people the ability to delete your account, and potentially reasons to do so. You're disallowing them that control because you make the assumption they won't need it. You ask why give them the ability to delete their account, and I've answered. So, in response, why not? |

Re: How do you delete your account?
Yes, that's right, IR. It still has their username on the post, but no way to view a profile or additional posts, and it is marked "Guest."
There are various potential abuses to deleting accounts. ZU has had enough of a history of organized trolling assaults that we don't need more ways for people to screw with the forums. |

Re: How do you delete your account?
It doesn't prevent it. It prevents people from taking advantage of how the forum deals with deleted users, and the fact that we can't trace the posts as easily.
