Own-account deletion was enabled on another forum I visit just a little while ago. It took approximately one day for someone to delete their account in a tantrum, and approximately one night of sleep for them to realize that they shouldn't have done it. It was too late though, such deletions are permanent and cannot be reverted.

For the most part, the only accounts I delete are the accounts of adbots. There is quite simply no positive impact to deleting the account of a member with posts. It is pointless, it leads to a host of problems, it makes your account easily deletable by an angry sibling or friend, and there is nothing that self-account deletion can do that cannot be easily replicated via other means like PMing a moderator.

I'm not convinced, Tohopekaliga, I don't see what problems doing this would create. I think it's something the ZU staff should think about, anyhow.

Well, there's also the aspect that Cody has pointed out. I didn't think of it, but it is certainly just as valid--if not more so--of a reason.

So, no. Users won't have a "delete my account' button in the foreseeable future.

Sam, what would a "delete account" feature achieve which simply abandoning the account wouldn't?
