Interface downfalls?

Heya fellow ZUers,

What would you see as a failure in the user interface department? That being, what do you see as bleh that should be "YEAH!" ? Anything that appears to be more work than needed or otherwise caused you to research how to use the feature before actually using it.

There's a few things in the works, the social groups make over is one of the new things to be done. Of course it looks buggy and glitchy, even though all functionality works still, but vB4 should help provide the framework to fix such.

So any requests for what should receive some rethinking?

That would be a "Jason" titled inquiry But in the coarse of this thread, no. This is about layout positioning of elements. That being, are features accessible in a clear and fast way? Or is there a learning curve?

Graphics are not exactly entitled to this thread's question.

Darn.

As for layout, I quite like how the Temple skin has it; is there any chance of the other skins becoming functionally more similar?

No; they're old. Scotty still likes to tweak them, and I'm sure he will when we move to vB4 and he has to port them. But otherwise, things like the new User CP aren't being backported to old ZU skins.

As for interface elements that are in the wrong place, the postbit is the most cluttered things I've ever seen.

The active chat room users list doesn't work with the Light Green skin. I don't know if that's relevant or not..

Awwww, I was gonna be a hero and don the knight's blade and armor by saying "Yes, fair peasant, the new revisions for vB4-izing the skins will acquire the noble new interface enhancements of Temple..." But then seeing what you said and those people against the Temple layout, I cuffed my hands with a evil grin and snicker. Now I just need the curly mustache and a sad yet understanding background story to my evil deeds to come.

Anyways, what about the postbit exactly? I personally find it slightly alright, though the username seems to be bullied at this time, so that might need to change. All is good in vB4, where much rethinking will be done.

(Psst, I might still be willing to add interface enhancements to the old skins, where they'd be less/virtually-bug-free... Temple is just too complex to play nice with the interface changes without pure CSS changes :/ )

Re: Interface downfalls?

If there is anyway to add the locking of threads to the real-time update system, I'd like to see that happen. As it currently stands, I can see the post the mod makes added in real-time, but not the actual locking. Which is kind of a problem because some mods tend to be vague about their intentions, and I've on an occasion or two typed up a semi-long post only to find the thread was locked when I posted.
