Recent Posts Bar - suggestion

Ok i'm a huge fan of the Starcraft series and one of the fansites has an excellent forum, which is easy to navigate and has 1 very excellent feature

The lay out of the forum is fantastic, but it also has a top 5 recent posts bar at the top. This is incredibly usefull for knowing when the last post was made, who made it, and under which topic.

I cannot stress enough how usefull this bar is. It would be fantastic for the ZU to have a similar function.

Any one else have any input, as to why or why not this could be feasible.

Like when you pick new posts at the top?

Thats a similar function, but it takes you to a whole new page.

This is a bar which is at the top of all forum pages. Meaning that what ever forum page you can know what the last 5 posts where and on which part of the forum.

This way you wont have to keep 2 pages open (one for the new posts and another for the thread you are in), you can just have one. It just makes the forums easier to navigate.

Looks like clutter to me.

And the "New Posts" button does the same job quite perfectly.

They have this on another forum I visit but it's got around 20 posts with a scrollbar. It works pretty well. Not sure how it would fare on ZU.

With a site as active (most of the time) as ZU, I'd bet that half the new posts wouldn't be seen by anybody because they'd get replaced pretty quick, at least if you use one as small as the StarCraft forum's.

I'm not really sure if it'd be at all useful here. I mean, it wouldn't hurt anything, but I kinda doubt it would help much either.

Im with Ton on this one. This place is very active and it may clutter stuff up more than actually be useful but who knows.

Thats a good point. I don't see this as clutter, just a usefull tool. However that scroll bar seems like a good suggestion.

Still i think your all right, perhaps the ZU would not be as good a candidate for this feature as another forum.

We essentially have this function under 'New Posts' at the top. I like our set up better, as it save a lot of screen space. I'm not particularly interested in seeing new posts from every board, so I'd rather not be forced to.

Man I never used the 'new posts' thing before today but that's cool.

As far as I know this scrollbar one is static so it's not even as cool as ours.

I personally think it looks pretty ugly. I wouldn't want to see that on every forum, especially since I really only visit four forums out of the 30 or so we have.
