[Suggestion] Youtube Tag Button?

So I'm sure everyone knows how to embed youtube videos on ZU, but what I've noticed is that there's no tag button for it. You have to type out [*youtube][/youtube] every time. How about adding a button for our convenience?

I like this idea... that, or its just my laziness talking.

meh, I don't use any buttons. I type out all the code I use anyway. I have the editor set to basic mode, so the silly buttons don't even show up.

Please no. Having the embed function in the first place was annoying enough, but to encourage embeds even more is very unnecessary.

Like was said back when embeds were first suggested in April, there is nothing gained by embedding which is not already there for linking direct to youtube. Also, embeds are - without exception - ugly pictures which can't be hidden by any method.

I think it would be more convenient to have a Youtube tag button, personally. It's only one extra button in the Add Reply section. People still embed videos anyway, so may as well make it easier.

But continuing the argument in favor of having less embeds is still worth it.

If your computer/internet connection is fast enough to load a youtube video at any decent speed, then a few ads and such mean nothing. And if you can't load the vid at a decent speed, then you wouldn't be watching them here on ZU anyway.

I like the embeds though. It allows me to stay on ZU and it doesn't force me to open a new window. It's quite a nice feature. I doubt a button would drastically increase the use of the embed tags anyway. People who rarely use them will still probably rarely use them.

And a number of the people who didn't previously know how to make embeds will use them. I stand by that the less embedded videos, the better.

If you really don't like embedded videos, you can just scroll over them you know. At the very worst they're just a minor annoyance.

A minor annoyance is still an annoyance.

But it's not such a big deal that every measure must be taken to ensure you encounter as little embeds as possible. People are going to embed vids anyway, and people who don't know how can simply ask, and someone will probably tell them. Adding a button wont hurt anymore than adding the embeds themselves.

Now though, I think we've come to a problem which I've brought up before: There should be a way to hide the embeds, similar to how we can hide images.

I don't mind either way but the tag button would be more convenient.

I think this is a better suggestion. Adding an embed button shouldn't be done until there is a method for people who don't want them slowing down their loading times to hide them.

And this is coming from a person who likes embedding vids in his posts.

Hmmm...they don't really slow down the loading time that significantly for me, but I wouldn't mind having a feature to hide them either. I'm not that fussed, TBH.

vB4 will support this by default. Until then, let's avoid it as long as we can
