Creativity Corner Rules, v2 - "Abandon hope, all ye who enter here..."

Welcome, fellow writers, artists, and spriters, to Zelda Universe's Art and Writing section. Many eons have passed since this section's conception. Throughout these hallowed halls of scribbles and drawings, we have seen many people come and go, including previous moderators- SuperDecimal, Mirren, HitokiriChibi, Anime_Queen...and countless others. With their departure, came our honored section's decline.

That was...

Until a wild Vey appeared, and Gold threw a pokéball at it.

We do not know if Gold caught the wild Vey; what we do know is that the two of them eventually stumbled upon these hallowed halls, saw the graffiti paint everywhere, and frowned. Thus they took it upon themselves to renovate these halls so that artists of all talents and creeds can share their art!

Posting

1) When posting art, please use the proper prefixes and abbreviations in the thread title.

In the case of posting in the Artwork section, use one of the following prefixes when making a thread-

[Spr] - Sprite/Pixel Art*
[Fa] - Fanart
[Fg] - Flash/Gif Animations
[M] - Movies
[S] - Sculpture
[Orig] - Original Art
[P] - Photography
[Misc] - Miscellaneous Art (that does not fit the other categories)
[Offc] - Official Art Copies
[Dump] - General Art (that is a mixture of two or more categories)

*while we allow sprite artwork, if all you have is sprite art, we ask that you post your sprites in the Sprite Comic Shantytown instead. Pixel art is an exception.

In the case of the Fan Fiction and Poetry and Originals sections, please use these prefixes and abbreviations instead-

[ZGen] - General Zelda (Fan Fiction Only)
[Act] - Action/Adventure
[Tra] - Tragedy
[Fan] - Fantasy/Spiritual
[MC] - Mystery/Crime
[NF] - Non-Fiction (Originals Only)
[Com] - Comedy/Satire/Parody
[Hor] - Horror
[Con] - Conceptual/Transcendental
[Sf] - Sci-Fi
[Rom] - Romance

At the end of your thread title, please include the rating-

(G) - Suitable content for all ages.
(T) - Suitable content for ages 10+
(M) - Suitable content for ages 16+
(MA) - Suitable content for ages 21+

For the prefixes, we have a drop down menu you can use to select the prefix of your choice; however, you must type the rating as part of the thread title if you are posting writing.

Ex: [Hor] Dante (M).

If you want to put in a request for something, just add a (Req) abbreviation at the beginning of your thread title.

2) When posting artwork, please do not directly link to images. Even though we live in an age with broadband internet, not everyone has fast internet. For those of us who do not have fast internet, viewing art becomes a chore...or should I say, watching pictures load for several minutes is. Please either just link to a thumbnail of the picture or simply link to it. Imageshack already has a thumbnail feature with its service, but other image hosting services such as Photobucket have it as well.

3) Do not use attachments. I cannot tell you how many times I've ran into stories where a writer attaches a word doc to his thread in hopes of preserving formatting. While Holly and I understand the desire to preserve formatting, it is unnecessary to force readers to download an attachment. There are other computer security risk factors involved with attachments as well (i.e. viruses could've embedded themselves in the doc file). Instead, either properly format/space the story for viewing on ZU, use a WYSIWYG editor such as KompoZer to type the story up, or host the story on another website (such as fanfiction.net or fictionpress.com).

4) It is okay to ask for comments, but please only do so once. As a rule of thumb, repeatedly asking for people to go review your work is generally frowned upon. We all want people to come and comment on our writings and artwork; if you really want people to comment on your work, take time to comment on other people's work. Comments will come in time; not everyone has something worthwhile to say the first time they look at something, be it a scribble of a Link plushie or a drabble about mailboxes.

5) Do not bump threads. As with the previous rule, we all want people to look at our threads. Unless you are updating, informing thread viewers of changes you've made to previous posts (in the case of writing), or commenting on your thread, do not make another reply to your thread. You must be updating your story in some fashion; if no one has commented, simply feel free to post with the next chapter (if it is writing) or artwork (if it is art).

6) If you post an artwork that has extreme gore or nudity, do not post the image. Instead, just simply provide a link to the image in question. While we allow artistic nudity, this is not the place to post over-the-top smut. If we find your picture is over-the-top, we reserve the right to modify and/or delete posts/threads at our discretion.

Etiquette

1) Do not spam. Spam in this case is considered to be a comment entirely unrelated to the thread at hand, or simply a short comment without much thought put into it.

Here are some examples of spam-

"Cool I like it."

"Awesome! Please continue, that was the best thing ever!"

"omg u suk"

"wil u b my frind"

Here are some examples of what is not spam-

"Wow, I found your guide to be very useful! I like all of the detail you put into it, as well as how you organized it!"

"That was a great read. I loved the way you used foreshadowing in that story."

"Oh, what a cool picture! I really loved how you shaded it, but the nose was slightly crooked. Might want to fix that next time."

2) Post constructively. If you like or dislike a writing or artwork, please be prepared to state your reasoning why. Just telling someone that you liked or disliked something helps no one. If you have nothing constructive to say about a story or art other than "that's good" or "that's bad", then please do not post. Rather than say either one of those, say what you liked about it, and if you can, how they can improve.

We have been seeing way too much of this. Going forward, anyone who fails to post constructively will end up having posts deleted; repeat offenders will be given warnings and infractions at our discretion.

3) Discussion is encouraged, arguing and flaming is not. Rather than continue the argument, try and be the better person and drop it; if you must continue, please take it to PM or PM either myself, Holly, or one of the other members of the mod team and we will look into it. Flaming other users will not be tolerated, and if arguing and flaming continues, warnings and even infractions will be handed out at our discretion. It is okay to disagree, so long as both parties mention their points in a calm and civil manner.

4) Be mindful that this is a board for all ages and skill levels. Not everyone who comes to these hallowed halls is a master artist or writer. Skillful writing and artistry comes with time and practice. Refrain from putting down your fellow writers and artists, especially if they are don't quite understand your criticisms. Instead, try and help them along if you can by clarifying what you are trying to say.

5) Plagiarism is a no-no. Plagiarism is taking a piece of art or writing and claiming it as your own, usually accompanied by various small changes to the work. It is essentially stealing. No one likes a thief. Plagiarism will result in the locking of threads, followed by an infraction. We will not tolerate plagiarism within these halls.

6) The rules of ZU still apply. In addition to all of the rules listed here, please follow the normal rules of ZU. Your fellow artists and writers will appreciate it.

If you have any further questions, PM either Gold or myself.
