The Legend of Zelda: Necro Scepter (M)

So, this is my fan fic based off events (that didn't really occur in the games) before Twilight Princess. This fic does not revolve around Link, rather fictional characters I made, however, characters and elements from Twilight Princess do make appearances throughout the story. So, enjoy:

Prologue

A man walked down the empty streets that were so quiet, each footstep against the paved road could be heard a mile away. As he continued to progress, his blue eyes remained staring in front of him, as if he had no care in the world. They remained fixed on to where he was heading. The man wore old and torn farming clothes, and carried a sword behind his back for he was of the peasant folk who abided in the forest, grew crops and raised animals that are brought to the town to sell.

The settlement of Castle Town was not suitable enough for farming, so even these lowlier people were important to Hyrule’s economy. They were pioneers who expanded Hyrule to unexplored regions, looking for new settlements. They found the Ordon Forest, where a long river flowed with fertile soil along the banks, perfect for growing their crops. The man was not there to sell crops however, he had much different intentions.

The man continued down the alley until he reached a small set of stairs leading to bar. He looked at the sign for reassurance; it read Telma’s Bar. He walked inside and the silence became loud, as numerous people sat around at tables, conversing and drinking with one another. The farmer took a table closest to the entryway, where he was greeted by two men, who seemed to know him. One of them rather portly, and his face was red from too much ale, some of it dripping down his brown, curly beard. The other man was thin, and wore glass lenses over his eyes, and overall seemed much more presentable than his drunken friend. Their brown eyes both looked at him, and they both smiled to see their old friend once more.

“Why, look who it is!” the portly one exclaimed, “How long has it been?”

“Ten years”, said he and the thin man simultaneously.

“Long time, isn’t it?” asked the farmer.

“Last time we saw yeh, you were gettn’ hauled off to Arbiter’s Grounds.”

The farmer’s grin turned into a glare that even made the other two men change expressions quickly.

“What happened?” The slimmer man asked.

A waitress passed by, and the rancher seized the opportunity to change the subject. “Hey a round over here!?” he shouted to her. And she placed a stiff mug of ale in front of him. He picked up the mug and took a large gulp from it.

“C’mon man, we’ve been friends since the early days. Now, what happened?” asked the portly man. A sense of concern was in his voice.

“Well…” the farmer began, “it is probably best if I get this out of my head. Day and night, it’s been haunting me, what happened, and I was not aware of what occurred, until a peculiar man informed me of the events. I hadn’t been there for maybe two months…”

“Hold on, hold on”, interrupted the man with glasses. “You’ve been out for all these years?”

“No”, he replied. “They rounded up as many prisoners as possible and took us to the Gerudo Fortress, but that’s beside the point. Anyway….”

Chapter 1

Sand shifted down from the dunes, carried by the winds, only to drift to yet another mound. The temperature was so hot and arid, that one would believe they could see the rippling air, or that they were in Hell itself. They say that the Sun can blind a man on eye contact, but in the Great Desert, many believe the Sand Goddess herself will kill any mortal who dare lay an eye on the Sun’s beauty, out of pure jealousy. There is much more to fear than goddesses, however, even more than the Gerudo. They say it is the home of the living dead, and dark creatures that have arisen from the abyss. Such things are only legend to outsiders, but for those who are unfortunate to be trapped within the desert, they know of its true evil.

A few horse riders galloped over the treacherous dunes, but these animals were no strangers to the desert, nor their riders. They were Gerudo, and they’ve spent their lives learning every grain of sand in the desert, to every cave and canyon. The day was out of the ordinary; they carried along a prisoner, cuffed to a rope and forced to walk with the soldiers. Of course it was not an occasion to bring in prisoners, however today only one, and he was not an ordinary person. He was also no criminal, he himself knew that, but he did not know why he was made out to be one. His hair was black, and his bangs split down the middle. He had glistening blue eyes that were slightly open from the sand being blown around, and his exhaustion from the blistering heat. He wore steel chainmail and heavy armor bearing the Hylian Crest on the chest plate, of which was no help to his current situation.

He was a Hylian, a soldier be it at that, and more importantly the general of the Knights of Hyrule. Soldiers of the Knights of Hyrule spent their early days as squires, learning not to know fear, nor anger… nor love. Nothing, but courage: to protect the ruling family, power: to enforce the law, and wisdom: to outwit any threat. Any soldier, who became a knight, swore to serve until their dying day. Now their very own general was gone, being taken as prisoner only to leave others assuming he was in fact, dead.

He was now growing impatient, having been dragged around the desert for hours, at least he shouted, “This is ridiculous, you have no idea how many questions I have, like: ‘Can I please take off this God dammed armor off’? Or ‘maybe have some water so I do not die’? Even ‘Where in the hell are you taking me’!?”

The soldiers looked back, but none answered, they simply continued onward. The women wore thick armor as well, and helmets baring the marking of the Gerudo. How they were not suffering like him, the Hylian did not know. The Gerudo wore face masks over their nose and mouth, and according to Hylian-lore, their beauty was too much for any man to behold, thus they covered their face.

“Do you have the slightest clue who I am? I am Kei, General of the Knight’s of Hyrule and…”

The Guard pulling him along, interrupted, “No, you are Hylian trash who needs to learn when and when not, to speak.”

Kei knew he was getting on their nerves, exactly what he wanted; even their temper was raised in the heat.

“Can… I at least have some water and food, then?”

Once again, there was no response.

“Look all I want is…”

“I have had it!”, she finally snapped.

The warrior dismounted from her horse and the sand beneath her feet splashed like water. Kei began to imagine water, and started thinking about his thirst, but he quickly snapped out of it to remain focused on his plan. The soldier retrieved a curved-sword from the saddle, and approached him with it at hand. The other two riders stopped their horse shortly after.

“You know you are not allowed to kill prisoners unless ‘They’ allow it so!” one of the other Gerudo reminded her.

“I’m not going to kill him, I’m going to cut his tongue out, then he can complain about that”, she answered bitterly.

Now raising the blade with both hands, she continued walking towards him, but she gave a small smirk under her mask knowing she was going to teach this rat a lesson. She swung the scimitar, but the Hylian also gave a grin now, and ducked and raised the rope between his wrists under the edge. The sword cut through the threads, and he pushed the Gerudo to the ground, and retrieved the sword from her hand. Kei now pointed the blade at the woman, who was on the ground, without any sort of defense.

“Now listen”, he began.” I am not going anywhere, with anyone, until I have answers here! So…”

Kei started thinking about his thirst and the scorching heat, and he began to find difficulty in keeping his eyes open. He suddenly dropped to the soft sand; he had suffered from his exhaustion and dehydration for too long. As his eyes slowly closed, the last thing he could see was the fallen Gerudo getting back up, and looked down at him with a stern glare.

His eyes opened, and he found himself on a horse, and now behind one of the Gerudo warriors. Was it the same one he had fought with? He was not sure. Kei thought he heard a woman’s voice saying “Here”, but he was still barely awake to know for sure. He looked down to find a canteen being handed to him, by the Gerudo, and he did not hesitate to take it. The Hylian was far too sick of the desert now, to even imagine they could have poisoned it. They would not kill him anyway, so he felt safer now, but was worried of what was yet to come.

Now finished with the canteen already, Kei looked up to find an enormous, cylinder-shaped tower before him. There were small windows, covered by iron bars rather than glass, and also a winding staircase above leading up to the mysterious top. He also looked behind himself, to see where had been, and saw a large campsite with Gerudo simply patrolling and talking with each other. Kei looked forward again to the tower, and he now noticed it had six posts surrounding the entire structure, each one taller than the building itself and marked with medallions bearing the Sage elements. He thought he saw one of them fractured, but perhaps he was imagining it, and it did not matter to him now since he now knew where he was.

The Gerudo on the horse beside Kei, looked at him, and greeted him sarcastically with, “Welcome General, to the Arbiter’s Grounds.”
