The Insanity Plague
A strange plague strikes Hyrule, causing everyone to go insane. Link and Zelda are the only two still managing to hold on to their sanity, along with Midna, who is oddly unaffected by the plague at all. Or so it seems. Midna is also returned to imp form, by whom and why of all means is beyond our heroes, and somehow has a hold of the Fused Shadows again. This matter confuses Link greatly. So our three heroes have to traverse across Hyrule, Termina, and many other places unknown to them to find some cure to this disease. And what would our story be without some evil they have to defeat?
Chapter 1 – “The Insanity begins” “MR. LINK!!!” someone called. Link looked out his window, he was never usually called “Mr.” To Link’s surprise, the postman was waiting outside his house. Link went outside his house and up to the postman. “I have a letter for you” the postman said, handing Link a letter “Dodododo!!!” The postman ran off. Link watched him go, and opened the letter. Link I know I’m about to sound crazy, but there is a strange disease covering Hyrule. Please, stay in your house, stay away from everyone and burn this letter immediately after reading it. This is all for the sake of your sanity. Please Link, I’m begging you, do not risk your sanity! I will send a letter to you if I absolutely need to. Zelda Link looked at the letter in shock. He held it away from his face, lit a fire, and burned it. He went straight to the spirit spring, washed his hands profusely, and then bottled up all the water he could. He ran back to his house, and then locked himself inside. Then a thought occurred to him. Could this be serious? Or had Zelda decided to pull a prank on him? Link didn’t want to take his chances. A few days past, and Link began to wonder if shutting himself up for the sake of his sanity was going to drive him insane. Zelda had to be playing a prank on him. Link got up, headed outside, and then stood there in shock. A few of the kids from the village just sat there in fetal positions rocking back and forth slowly. He quickly slipped back inside and slammed the door shut. She was right, he told himself. Of course, that thought changed days later. Link had finally run out of water and decided to risk going outside to get more. No one was outside, and Link quickly ran to the Spirit Spring and bottled up some more water. He went back to his house. Something smelled really good. Link went over to his fireplace and looked in the pot. Then he smiled, his soup was finally ready. He pulled out a few more empty bottles and stored up on some soup. He looked out his window again, no one was out. Zelda has to be pulling a prank, he thought, I’m going to go the Castle and complain. Link went back outside, hopped on Epona, and rode off. Finally, he reached Castle Town. He walked in. No one was outside. Maybe… Link thought but then decided if he was already here, he should go to the Castle. No guards were out, so he got in easily. As soon as he opened the door someone yelled “WHO IS IT!?!” It was Zelda. “LINK!!! Shut the door!!” Link shut the door. “Why the heck are you here? There is no reason whatsoever that you should have risked your sanity traveling from Ordon to the Castle!!” Zelda seemed very twitchy. “So you were serious” Link said “Darn right I was!!” Zelda threw her hands up in the air “now you’ve risked letting it in!!!” Link just stared at her. “You sure it hasn’t already?” “What!?!” Zelda said, twitching “Never mind…” Link said. “Hang on” Zelda said, sniffing “what’s that smell?” “What smell… oh!!” Link pulled out a bottle of his soup “It’s my soup, want some?” Zelda looked at it. “Is it safe?” “Yes” Link said, nodding, feeling like he was talking to a three-year-old. Zelda took it, sniffed it, and then drank some. “Ooh! That’s good!!” Link put the bottle away. “Well, I guess since you’re here, you can stay” Zelda said “can’t risk your sanity again.” Link nodded, glad he didn’t have to go back through the deserted Castle Town, and that Zelda had finally calmed down. The next day… Link woke up with a start, not for the first time that night. Sleeping in the same building as Zelda was just a smidge weird. It didn’t matter if they were at separate ends of the Castle. And something inside of Link just told him that something was about to go terribly wrong. Finally, Link woke up and it was at least bright outside. And despite the fact that there were about a million people outside the Castle slowly going insane something felt really good about today. Link went to go find Zelda, and found her in the first room he had ever met her. Up in a tower, at a window, looking down at everything below. Last time Link remembered Zelda being here was back during the Twilight. It didn’t matter though, that was the past. Zelda just stood staring, a pained expression on her face, at all the insane people below. “Zelda” Link said, tapping her shoulder. Zelda didn’t move. “Zelda” Link said again. “Zel!” Link said, wrenching her away from the window. Zelda looked at him. “Oh, sorry Link” Zelda said, glancing back out the window. “Zels!!” Link said, pulling her away again “stop it!! Please, Zels, please” “Wait a second” Zelda said, taking Link’s hand off her shoulder “Did you just call me ‘Zels’?” Link blinked a few times, the reality dawning on him. “I guess I did” he said “Okay then” Zelda said, turning back to the window. “Don’t!!” Link said, pulling her away again “Gosh! You worry worse than I do!!” “Well this is worse than when they were all spirits!!!” Zelda said. Link pulled her out into the hallway, away from the window. “Stop! Please!!” Link said “you’re going to drive yourself insane!” Zelda laughed, but it didn’t reach her eyes. “Look, if we’re the only sane ones left” Link said, looking at Zelda. “Oh what a touching moment!!” a voice from the shadows said. Link and Zelda both looked around, trying to find who had spoken. “I thought when I got here it would be boring!! Eeheehee!!” Link stopped. He’d know that laugh anywhere. “Midna!?!” “Who else?” Midna asked, floating out of the shadows. Zelda looked at Midna. “Are you an imp? Again?” Midna sighed. “Yes, and this time I have no idea why.” Link looked at Midna too, trying not to cry with joy at seeing such a familiar face. “Wait,” Link said, realizing something “why do you have the Fused Shadow again?” “Long story” Midna said “One that I don’t understand.” She floated over to the window. “Ooh! What happened here?” Zelda’s face, which had actually been smiling, instantly darkened. “Hyrule has been plagued.” She said, causing Link to gasp and Midna’s eyes to widen “I have no idea with what exactly” Zelda tore her glance away from the window “but it causes people to go insane. We’re the only sane ones left.” “Interesting” Midna said, leaning back and humming her own theme. “Don’t tell me you don’t care again!” Link said “What!?!” Midna shot into the air, and got eye level with Link “Of course I do!!” she was pretty much shaking with anger. Link stepped behind Zelda, in case Midna decided to attack. “I’m sorry” Link said “it’s just last time you hummed that you didn’t!” “I can hum whatever I want!” Midna said. “Stop it!!” Zelda suddenly shouted “Look, were all probably just a little testy from staying cooped up for the past who knows how long.” She directed this mainly at Link. “I’m sorry” Link said “Ya, me too” Midna said “guess I’m just a bit testy about being an imp again.” “That would make anyone testy” Link said “I still kind of like you this way though.” “How?” Midna asked, seeming shocked. Link shrugged. “I got used to it” he said. “How could anyone get used to this?” Midna asked, starting to look angry again. “It’s kind of cute” Link said “Cute?!?” Midna said, definitely angry again “I’m hideous!!” “ALRIGHT!!!” Zelda said “stop it!! Both of you!! I’m sick and tired of your bickering!! We need to be on opposite sides of the Castle!! NOW!!” To Link’s surprise, Midna obeyed a direct order and floated off. “Fine,” Link said “but you need to stay away from that window” Zelda nodded, and walked off, leaving Link alone. “Girls!” he said, sitting down. Chapter 2 – “The Adventure Begins” After a while, Link went off to find Zelda and Midna. It took him a while, considering how large the Castle was, but eventually he found them. Well, he found Zelda. “This is hopeless” she said, stirring her soggy cereal. “No it’s not!” Link said “stop being depressed gosh! There’s got to be something we can do.” “If you could find a cure, that’d be great!” Zelda said sarcastically. “That’s not a bad idea” Link said. “Ooh! More adventure?” Midna popped out of nowhere. “Whoa!!” Link said, freaking out “where’d you come from?” “You’re shadow” Midna said “It’s comfortable in there.” “Okay” Link said “so, who’s up for another adventure?” “I am!” Midna said “Sure” Zelda said “be right back!!” she ran off. “Wonder what that’s about?” Midna asked, watching her go. Link shrugged. Something moved in the shadows. “What was that?” Midna asked, looking around. Link looked around too, tensing up. The something moved again. “Show yourself!” Midna called. Link drew his sword. The something darted to another shadow. “I’m warning you” Midna said, looking as if she was ready to attack. “Rar!” the something said, jumping out. Link realized it wasn’t a something, it was a someone. “Who are you?” Midna asked, but Link grinned. “Zelda?” he asked, with a slight laugh. The person nodded. “But shh! I’m Sheik, not Zelda.” “Sweet,” Link said. “What gave you that idea?” Midna asked, relaxing slightly. “A book” Sheik said with a shrug. “Okay then…” Midna said, sitting down in mid-air. “Also, if anyone asks” Sheik said “I’m a guy.” Link looked at Sheik, then shook his head and asked “So by becoming Sheik, you throw away everything about your identity?” “Pretty much yeah” Sheik said with a nod. “I can’t go out there as a princess can I?” she, no, he (Link was confused) asked. Midna muttered something, but made it look as if she said nothing. Link nodded, figuring that would be a bad idea. “Let’s get going” he said. “Oh!” Midna said, remembering something “Aren’t you two risking your sanity doing this?” “I guess we are” Link said “It’s worth it” Sheik said, pounding her, his (Link was still confused), fist on the table. “And you said…” Link began Sheik just shrugged “We should be fine as long as we stay away from everyone, you made it over here just fine.” Link nodded, “true.” Midna yawned. “Are we going to get started or what?” |

Re: The Insanity Plague
Do you seriously have that much difficulty grasping that this is a story and not a transcript of a conversation? Stories are supposed to have actual narration in them. You fail to provide narration, description, or indeed, anything that would make this a good story.

Re: The Insanity Plague
Yeah. Probably more scriptlike. I like it though. I'd like to read more. It's a cool idea, and a well thought up idea. Link's personality is a bit strange though...

Re: The Insanity Plague
You mentioned Kokiri Forest near the beginning then seemed to change your mind and decided to put in Ordon and references to Twilight Princess. Besides that, Zelda is quiet and dignified in every game, not screaming like a maniac. Double line breaks go between paragraphs and you need to add in thought, narrative, and detail into your story. You never use multiple punctuation marks except in the case of the ...s, and then only three periods.
C'mon, you've gotten way more constructive reviews than a lot of people on this site despite the quality of your fics being very poor. This is stuff they teach in basic elementary school classes. Quit wasting everyone's time and clean it up. If you're going to post it and expect people to spend time reading it and reviewing it, then you need to put effort into it or it's an insult to those who've given you helpful advice.
