The Return of Midna

Note: This is a humor story. It's just something totally random that I came up with one day while doodling in math class. It also takes place about 200 years after Twilight Princess.

Chapter One – “Midna Returns”

Her eyes scanned the plains of Hyrule. Everything seemed much different. She can’t have been gone ALL that long, could she?
Whatever, it was probably just a trick of the moonlight. She looked up fondly at the stars, which were impossible to see in the Twilight Realm.
She glanced around, wondering where on earth he could be. What was his town called? It started with an O… right? She couldn’t remember. Her eyes widened when she saw a young boy in green sitting on a rock. Could it really be?
She headed over, trying desperately not to run.
“Link!” she called, slowing herself down as she neared the boy.
The young boy turned around and jumped up, his hand going straight to the hilt of his sword.
“Wait a second…” she looked at him “Did you get shorter?”
The boy looked at her, and lowered his sword.
“No, uhh… who are you? And how did you know my name? Actually, it’s not much of a surprise, everyone seems to know it these days. Beside the point, who are you?”
She looked at him, her expression slightly shocked.
“Midna” she said, “so you ARE Link?” She looked at him more closely, he seemed a bit younger. Maybe she didn’t come around the same time as she hoped, considering the way she came was much more risky than using the mirror. But maybe she would get lucky and this would be his son or something.
The boy nodded.
“Have you gotten me confused with someone else?” He asked, sounding almost as confused as Midna.
“No, I don’t think, well I might. Umm… can you tell me what year it is?”
“I don’t pay attention to the year” Young Link, Midna couldn’t bring herself to call him Link, said “I think it’s about 200 years after the fall of the Twilight. Maybe… uhh… I’ve got too much on my plate right now to care.” Young Link sighed.
Midna, being Midna, ignored his problems completely.
“The fall of the Twilight…” she said, and then asked “How much do you know about it?”
“Not much, I’m named after the hero though.” Young Link shrugged and then added in a small whisper “Of course.”
“Really” Midna said, lost in thought as she looked at the stars.
Midna sat down slowly and then said
“You know, I was there”
“What!?!” Young Link asked, brought back to reality with a thud. “How is that possible?”
“It’s complicated” Midna said.
“Okay…” Young Link trailed off, unsure if it was a good idea to ask her anything.
“I knew him too” Midna said “I guess he’s not around now…” she trailed off, sounding slightly disappointed. Now she had to figure out how to get back, and this entire trip would have been pointless.
“Wait…” Midna could see a light bulb turning on in Young Link’s head “You knew the hero? I in all the stories about the Twilight there was never a mention of you.”
“Did she really keep it THAT hushed up?” Midna was astonished. Was it really all that important to Zelda to make sure that the Twili weren’t known? If only she was still around, Midna would have yelled both her ears off by now.
“Who?” Young Link asked, his full attention on Midna.
“Oh, no one” Midna lied.
“So, you knew Link?” Young Link asked “even if he is my ancestor I have no idea what he was really like.”
“Well,” Midna was at a loss for words “what exactly do you want to know?”
“Everything!”
Midna sighed, this would be a long night.

Chapter 2 – “Link 101”

“Well…” Midna had no idea where to start. It was an hour or so later, and she still hadn’t gotten anywhere. Young Link still looked at her anxiously, waiting for her to say something. Midna swore he hadn’t blinked yet.
Midna looked up at the stars, smiling slightly.
“He was brave” she said finally “quiet too. He could use any weapon you thrust into his hands. He was smart, simple minded, and he did tend to worry a lot. He kept his promises, and was a friendly type. Got along with anyone that walked by. He helped when someone needed it, and was ultimately the most selfless person in Hyrule. And his eyes…”
Young Link lost his eager expression.
“He had the bluest eyes I have ever seen.”

Sometime later…

Finally, Young Link got tired of it.
“How good of a fighter was he?” he asked.
“A great fighter” Midna said, stopping suddenly “could kill a shadow beast in one swipe of his sword.”
“Shadow beast?” Young Link asked, lost once again.
“They’re this weird creature, very annoying, travel in packs, scream very annoyingly. I had a friend who was terrified of the scream once. Hard to kill too.”
“Oh,” Young Link still had a confused expression.
